Navigation
I never use the navigation in my car and listen to only one station so the screen stays down. Yesterday while driving home from work I didn't have any sound out of the radio so I pressed the FM button.. got nothing, pressed the nav button, nothing, screen didn't come up, tried a few more times and finally tried manually to get it to open. It did, partially and I noticed that the screen was separating from the back exposing the internals. I tried to snap it together which after a few attempts I was able to do and then just pushed it down into the closed position. What to do? I am afraid to bring it into the dealer because of cost, I don't use it so that is not the issue, I just hate having something not working. Any thoughts?

Could be a power issue - if you didn't get any radio with it down (and normally do), and then the screen wouldn't lift. Did you check the breakers?

You should be able to easily lift the screen with no power, I'm not sure why it would split open.

I did get the radio back and the screen had the usual screen info. There was definitely power, why it was sticking and why the separation is beyond me, could it be the heat and sun (Florida) finally did it in?

Mine sometimes does that, i.e. everything works but the screen doesn't flip open. It happens very rarely and I attribute it to the fact that the nav was retrofitted and the radio is the early EU model with the big screen and no CD.

Sounds like the sun is beating down on your dash, especially given that you're in Florida and it's taking a toll on the electronics and wiring.
Try and keep your car in the shade or garaged as much as possible. Also, use a sunscreen visor for your windshield when parked and make sure the windows are cracked open a bit so your cabin doesn't become an oven and bakes everything. Heat and sunlight are your Z's enemies. |

I am pretty sure that BMW will just deem it broken and say it needs replacing. At least thats what they did with my fully functioning one that had a rattle.
So the up/down buttons and the tilt buttons don't work at all? Makes a noise when you press them? |

Its the heat...I have factory NAV and mine goes out when its too hot. I get an error disc read notice on the screen. No screen separation. Doesn't come back till its cooled down (aka in the garage). Texas heat >100 degree all summer meant I saw alot of this!

Nav and now steering wheel issue
Haven't tried it after it has been sitting in the garage for a while, but I will and let you know. All the buttons work, it just struggles and goes nowhere as if it's being held down. Now I also have another issue, must be the heat, the plastic cover at 6 o'clock on the steering wheel is lose and comes up, can I glue it?
