i ended up selling my Si privately for what i paid, and bought the M, 6 months after buying the Si. not trying to be a debbie downer but i seriously doubt you are going to get anything near 31 for the Si, especially when you can get an M for that price or less.

Yeah, thinking your si is worth $30K is not very realistic. I think you overpaid if that is what you paid for it recently.
EB on here bought his Z4M brand new for only $36K I believe.

I agree with the above comments. I don't think the dealer will even give 25K for an SI. The dealer is going to get you coming and going. That's for sure. Have you looked up what your car is worth using KBB or Vehix? Another thing to consider besides increased maintenance costs is; have you checked with your insurance company regarding how much more insurance will be for an M?
If I new more about BMW's when I bought my '06 SI in November 2010, I probably would have gone for an M. However, I still get a pooh-eating grin every time I drive my SI and I am keeping it!!

I think that the buyer has the advantage now in late September when buying a convertible; just look at all the Z4s on eBay today for example. Unfortunately, that also means you won't do as well trading-in or private-selling your SI.
Oh well, just go and see what they come back with; we can speculate here all day. The bottom line may still be within your budget.

Well, you guys were spot on. They only offered me $25000 for trade in. I'll just keep what I've got. Doing some "spirited" driving today to my new job, this car still rocks and has enough power to do what I want it to.
Maybe in the future I'll buy some type of M coupe, but this roadster is going to stay with me. |

I just did the same thing (upgraded from a 3.0si to a //M). I got rear ended in my 2007 Z4 Coupe 3.0si a couple of months ago. While the 3.0si was being repaired, I found a 2007 //M Coupe, with only 21k-miles, more options and still under BMW original factory warranty for $31k. When I special ordered my Z4 Coupe 3.0si in 2006, the Z4 M-Coupe was $16k more $$$. After I sell the 3.0si, hopefully I will have upgraded for much less. If U know of anyone looking for a nice 3.0si with ///M coupe wheels, send them my way.

I have thought of doing the same. But I do love my Si so I will not be trading it in for a long time unless I get an amazing deal on a clean M Coupe somehow.

I know what you mean... I previously had two Z3 ///M Coupes. One S52-engine Z3 ///M Coupe and one S54-engine Z3 ///M Coupe. I drove both the S54 Z4 ///M Coupe and the 3.0si Z4 Coupe. I felt there was not that much difference in performance, on the low-end and I could not justify the extra $15K for the ///M-version. When my beloved mint condition Z4 Coupe 3.0si was rear ended, a friend of mine found me a very nice Z4 ///M Coupe, with half the miles, more options, still under BMW warranty, for a very good price in Florida. I flew to Florida, bought the Z4 ///M Coupe and drove it home. I had my Z4 Coupe 3.0si repaired by the best body shop in the area and it is now FOR SALE.

I recently made the switch from my '06 3.0Si to an '06 MR. Sold the 3.0 via Autotrader for a fair, but not great price. Bought the M from a private seller at a great price. In all, an $8K transaction including taxes, plus an additional $1K for Inspection I. Worth every dollar. Had I tried to upgrade the 3.0, I could have easily outspent the price differential, and that doesn't include the engine. The steering alone is worth the price of entry, and the handling is rock-solid, whereas the Z felt loose in comparison. Bonus: Insurance increase was zero.

there is no doubt that the M is an amazing machine. But this professional reviewer was quite impressed with the SI:
http://www.auto123.com/en/bmw/z4/200...00&artid=90628 Personally, I find that after two years, my SI still puts that silly grin on my face and I love the roar it makes when I push hard on the gas pedal. Cheers!!

Z4 3.0si upgrade
Sad that you have to put it up for the winter so soon.
I am perfectly happy with my 3.0si. Wanna know why? Because I haven't test driven an ///M yet! I'd love to feel the extra power but practically speaking (i.e. wife) we need an automatic. This is our first sports car also. Ditto on the permanent grin. Just finished with the Porter Cable, Black Diamond Wax and Polish. It shines up beautifully!
