S54 Euro Headers Help- Weird dimple and weld?

Hi all,

I bought a set of S54 euro headers from an M3 Forums member and received them yesterday. Upon unboxing them I noticed a weird dimple and weld spot in the cylinder 1-3 section. All of the other pictures I have seen of euro headers did not have a spot like this. Can anyone who has seen/installed euro headers confirm that this is normal and I am just paranoid or that this is a repair job?

Pics attached. Thanks in advance!!!

Let me know which header that is when looking at the motor from the front of the car (front or rear) and I'll check mine tonight and take some pics for you. Looks like a repair job to me, though.

That is 100% not normal.

Someone has done that.
JM2C but I wouldn't find that acceptable if it wasn't disclosed at time of sale.

Ya, definitely looks like a dent with some spot welding (probably got a puncture when dented). I'll snap some pics of mine for you to have in case the seller says it's normal.

In the meantime, here is a pic in this thread http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1198598

Sorry bud, but it's impossible to photograph them on the car easily (valve cover is in the way - this thread shows with valve cover removed, and you can see the headers: http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthre...1087257&page=2).

I did the next best thing and snapped off a pic of my US-spec headers; smooth as a baby's bottom. It's logical to expect the euro one to be the same way.

^This. Not normal, not in good condition, and should have been disclosed.

Just a thought but wasn't there a dent on right hand drive S54 Euro headers?

To answer your question. Yes Rhd euro headers will fit on Lhd car. Only difference is there is a dimple on the last pipe to clear the steering. Been on my car for more than a year now no problems! I have a nice set of Euro cats with less than 10k miles if your interested. :thumbsup2:

The RHD M3 headers will fit the LHD M3 (the steering column is on the other side), but the LHD headers won't fit the RHD M3 because the cats won't fit pass the steering column.

Yes, but not like that.

It looks like someone tried to make a set of LHD manifolds fit a RHD by taking a hammer to them; went too far & made a hole that needed welding.

its a really neat uniform squaring of the pipe normally , this appears home made!!!

When purchasing these, they were advertised as used only, with no mention on them being damaged. I have reached out to the seller and am working on a resolution with him. Hopefully things pan out, as apparently these were sent directly from his supplier overseas and he was unaware of their condition before shipping. I spent wayyyy too much time googling pictures of S54 headers yesterday and came up finding this thread (http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh...p-pipe-package) which provides pictures that get close to seeing the area in my pictures, and there is no evidence of this issue.

Regarding the dent present on RHD vs LHD headers, the set I bought were from a LHD model. The dent made to clear the steering rack on RHD models is actually on the cylinder 4-6 manifold, and higher up on the pipe for cylinder #6 (pic here for anyone interested http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=497976) EDIT: also a good pick of RHD headers in first link as well apparently!

Thanks for the responses everyone!

Update on situation - seller decided to ignore me (and apparently the sale thread no longer exists on M3F ). Situation sucks, but lessons learned. Got the headers repaired and am getting ready to have them ceramic coated. Looking forward to euro header swap in March!
