I'm having them Jet-hot coated but since the car is soon to be put away, I'll wait for spring to install.

I too have been waiting to put mine on until I can resolve this issue. I was toying with the idea of making my own section 1 with the same cat the m3 guys use, but if adding bungs works, might just go the easy route.

This is good news! I've been following this thread for a while hoping to learn what the problem might be since I have headers going on the car in a couple weeks.
So it looks like nobody who has modified their stock section 1 is throwing codes now?

I really hope you don't update us with a CEL in 100 miles. Great news with the simple fix! Another good reason to do the work yourself! I am not surprised you got a leak if they reused the gaskets between the header and section 1. Those gaskets should only be used once.

You and me both. I'm confident it's fine now as I've got plenty of miles on since, and everything is perfect. Usually it would light back up after a few cycles. I think if a CEL came on now... you'd be reading about me in the news (bridge. jump. and so forth)

ESS makes a tune that will make it so the light doesn't appear. If your inspector plugs in and reads your ECU, like he is supposed to do, your system will read "not ready" which will be a failed inspection.
They turn off the signal from the oxygen sensors. That's how I understand it. Last edited by Blind32; 11-17-2011 at 04:03 PM.. |

In my conversation with them, they basically do a Euro tune that still requires O2s in the Euro position. The O2s are still on & hopefully will pass inspection. This is what I'm doing.

This project is relatively easy to do, and after having solved my issue (exhaust leak) I'm happy to say everything is perfect and CEL-free. Should be interesting to see when the DKF system comes online. |

NeoGeo-
I also puzzled at this statement when I read it a long time ago. I know that some aftermarket headers come closer to certains parts of the car... like the FCAB. However, for an OEM header the fit should be great and all existing heat shields should be sufficient. Cats can get super hot because of the bottle neck they create... so I would think the area in general would be less hot with euro headers. Adding boost is another story. |

3rd party / ebay headers are a different story. Many of them have to have flat spots hammered into them to clear engine mounts etc. If anything OE euro will lower the temps because they get rid of the CATs. Adding a coating will lower heat loss & get the section 1 CATs up to temp faster & improve flow. The place I have used previously is http://www.fireballcoatings.com/inde...id=8&Itemid=19 They have a Toronto drop off location.

This is a simple mod that nets results without issues. You're not going to melt mounts and other such bs if your sticking with Euro headers. Our cars came from the FACTORY in Europe this way, and all ur doing is mimicking it. Easy. |
