255/35/18 Fit?

Would a Michelin PS2 255/35/18 fit on our OEM wheel?

Recommended fit is 8.5 to 10 wheel. I believe our front wheels are only 8"

I currently have 245/40/18 which is the limit for 8" wide rim.

Front wheel is only 8". No, it won't fit. I'd recommend a 9.5" wheel or at least 9" for a tire that size. Why? See what my experience was recently with a 245/40 on a stock 8" wheel. Spark Notes version is that really wide tires at the absolute edge of what will fit (e.g. 245 on an 8" wheel) perform much worse than a narrower tire on the same size wheel.

You can fit those size tires on wider wheel, and then it's going to require the right offset (probably about ET38 - ET35) and considerable negative camber to get it to tuck in under the fenders.

Better question is why do you want all that rubber? Look? Performance? (I thought the 245s looked a bit overstuffed on stock wheels myself--subjective of course.)

IMO 235 fr / 265 rr is the best fitment on OE wheels

I'm thinking of getting new tires and I was planning on on getting 235/40 Front and 265/40 for the back.... any thoughts ???

or should I stay with 225 and 255 and get spacers for a flush/cleaner look on stock wells?

But the heights are then mismatched...

Curious why you'd go with a 40 profile on a 265.

No particular reason, I don't understand why the front tires are a bit taller than the ones in the back.

I also like the way 40 look in the back.... looks like the prefect fit on stock suspension... IMO.

What do you recommend.

235/40 and 265/35. Keeps ratio front/rear pretty much same as stock. Smaller overall diameter, bit more effective wheel torque (about 2.5%). That comes at the expense of a smoother ride though (less rubber cushion).

Also, square stiffer sidewall tires--if going 235/265--work better with this 10mm wider size on stock wheels IMO than more rounded softer sidewalls. (Square e.g. Star Spec, RS3, NT05.)

I personally run 235/45 and 265/40. It matched overall diameter on OEM versus 235/40 and 265/35

The OE fronts (45% of 225mm = 101.25mm) are actually a bit shorter than the OE rears (40% of 255mm = 102mm).

If you like the look of the 255/40, then I'm pretty sure you would hate the taller look of the 265/40.

I'm liking this 235/45 and 265/40 combo as well. Do you know of any website that will let me look up what tires (brand/type) are available in that combo? I usually can find a tire in one of the size, but then can't find a matching pair for the other size.

I just used Tirerack and go to the spec page and it lists all the details of each size.

245/40 and 265/40 has been my choice because they were M3 OEM size....lots were available.....$ was good.

I asked the question because there were a set 255/30 for sale.

Lots of great info, thanks for the posts.
