Sooooo excited to get these on, and so let down by the experience. I've run loud Corsa's on my old SRT-8, a straight-thru system on my turbo B-20 '73 Volvo 142, hell even my current turbo 62 Beetle is tame compared to this thing - and it's a beast!
It's not even the fact that my change rattles in the ashtray when I drive around town, or that my voice trembles when I'm on Bluetooth (which has been rendered inoperable). I don't give a rip about drone, or my in-cab experience at all. My door panels could fall off from the vibration, and I wouldn't care. But it's the disconcerting amount of db this thing throws outside of the car. On top of that, this thing sounds like a 92 Civic with a huge fart-can driving around town. I don't think the carpet matches the drapes. Does it tone down at all once it's get carbon-ed up? I mean, women duck when I drive by and god forbid I give it any throttle in a tunnel or over-pass. I feel like I'm slinking down in my seat, embarrassed by the whole ordeal. Looks like I'll be on the Stromung group-buy despite my loathing for the last experience I had with them. There'll be a brand new set of RPI exhaust up for sale soon. TLDR: Hear these in person before you throw down your $. |

I can't speak to RPIs but have gone through a few set of other M exhausts and I can relate to your experiences. All exhausts tame down after breaking in but I think RPI's are going to stay pretty wild. On an unrelated note I was pulled over recently for having a very loud car. Mind you this was in early winter with everyone's windows rolled up and I was doing 25-30 in 3rd or 4th gear. Keep that in mind as you could probably get pulled over for those RPIs

Strange, I had the exact opposite experience when I just got it. From the outside it sounded just right, maybe a bit quitter than my liking. But, the vibration/drone inside the car drove me nuts. Fortunately the drone is all gone now…

Hopefully he will because that much fun should (and just might) be illegal. They do tame a little bit with time, but tunnels are just a hysterical blast to downshift and rip through.

Get someone to drive your car and you listen to it from the street. It literally sounds 5x quieter than in the cabin. I installed decibel batting in my trunk space cavities behind the carpet, installed dkf hangers and let the exhaust get a little use. I don't find them loud at all anymore. Sometimes I wish they were louder. With any loud exhaust however, you will get drone unless you make a j pipe.

Let me know the next time you are going to be around Seattle. I'd like to compare the RPI's with a full DKF setup.

Could be I have the perfect storm with headers, SuperSprint X-pipe and these cans. However I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and get some drive-bys done with me outside the car along w/ detailed videos.
Right now I feel like I'm firing a rapid-fire cannon at the cars behind me. It is a deep sound tho |

I have been considering swapping from stromungs to rpi, but I just can't justify spending money to do it since the stromungs sound so fantastic haha
if you are interested in a milder set up stromung is the way to go

I used to have stromung and loved them, but as a weekend car, they were a little dull for my taste (and it made my car sound like a prius when cruising with porsches and lambos) so I changed to rpi. I can see yours being exceptionally loud since you have both headers and x pipe! I even baffled my rpi inlets before installing to mute some sound, and I cant see myself with anither exhaust.
