Refreshing interior?
Hey guys, so id like to refresh the interior a bit. Was wondering if anyone had any experience updating parts in a cost effective matter.
For example steering wheel trim has scratches and is peeling. Shifter surround, shift boot and handbrake boot all showing age. CF trim is slightly damaged from where i removed the leatherZ armrest that came with the car when I bought it. Could potentially want to go for a whole new trim look as well. I managed to find steering wheel trim on ECStuning but it doesnt include the part with the buttons. Any info would be appreciated. TIA |

And to build on the previous post, my thread has some more info here (scroll down a little)
My steering wheel trim was trashed. I removed each piece, sanded and painted with satin black - looks like new. Sounds easy, but those trim pieces have some narrow plastic edges and need to be handled firmly, but very carefully. I broke a few pieces and had to glue them back and sand afterwards - it was a long process, but worth it. Also, use a tooth brush and cleaner on the steering wheel stitching. Again, mine was pretty gross with all the shmutz accumulation, but cleaned up well. Hope this helps!

Bumping this thread... I am OCD going on crazy with my Z4M's interior -- when I got the inevitable scratches on the rubberized paint on the steering wheel, door controls, etc..., I just ordered new parts.
Yesterday, I got a big ugly mark on the navigation screen case - looking at the cost of a new one, replacing may not be an option. So I'm looking at doing some dyi, or going to a detailing shop to fix the damage. In the e90 forum, people are suggesting that instead of Plastidip or generic matte black paint, using Colorbond LVP #258 paint matches the original finishing, so I'm thinking a skilled detailer might be able to fill in scratches and then blend in new paint. Has anyone tried this? Also, just to rant, but what a shame that BMW used interior materials that have the durability of toilet paper... |

I do interior restoration, and I have done Z4/M steering wheels in the past. I use factory coatings and clearcoats, and pieces come out exactly like factory pieces. Please see pictures of the set I recently did:
If you are interested, PM me - the price is $120 + shipping for restoration of all 8 pieces in the pictures. My turnaround is 2-3 days. |

Texasz3, do you only restore the trim and buttons or also the actual steering wheel? Great work by the way!

Thank you!
Yes, definitely can do that as well. Here is a thread I put together for E46M guys (I mostly do interior resto for E46, since they are the most common), but I can definitely do any soft touch stuff for Z4 and Z4M, and really, any other BMW of the period. https://nam3forum.com/forums/forum/c...ch-restoration Quote:

Really nice work.
I'd like to get this done. The oem finish seems soft. Are you able to match it? Quote:

Well, yes - but you don't want the same "soft" finish, as it will peel off and scratch just as easily as the original. The finish that I do is very similar in feel and look, but it is more durable than original factory finish. It is NOT the same as factory, but it does look and feel the SAME, if you know what I mean.
