Cold Start Issues

I have just bought my Zed (Automatic) and I am experiencing some cold start issues, after starting revs fall really low and usually recover but sometimes the engine stalls - this lasts for 20 to 30 seconds.
During this period if I put my foot on the brake pedal to select drive from park the revs go up and down quite violently for about 20 to 30 seconds, once it settles down I can select drive and proceed normally.
This only happens from a cold start, when the car has warmed up it behaves normally, has anybody also experienced this and what was the fix?

Sounds like a vacuum leak somewhere.
Also check/clean the ICV(Idle Control Valve)

Only doing it when cold and not hot should help to diagnose the problem I hope.
I see you are from Kitchener, Ontario - not too far from Kincardine, Ontario where I lived in the early 80's whilst working at the Bruce Nuclear Power Development.

It would seem that the issue is not resolved, more hoses found perished and cracked and replaced and this was to no avail either.
Real culprit was the cheap generic MAF that had been fitted, branded Hella MAF fitted and everything is now as it should be.
