New iPhone Holder Review

Just picked this up, Mountek cd slot holder off Amazon for $17.95. Reason I like it a lot is because it allows me to use my phone on track (lap timer) without having to mount on windshield where it can be distracting. Also good for regular daily use if I need to use my phone for GPS. I never use the cd slot so no functionality lost, and also allows me to charge my phone without wires dangling.

On a side note I'm a huge Harry's Lap Timer fan / user and his latest version allows picture in picture capabilities with the new GoPro 3. But what's really cool is the next version will allow the user to control the external camera (GoPro) as the primary video, all within HLT. So that means I can control/record with the GoPro from the HLT software (which will ensure my video and lap times are in sync), all while my phone remains secure but out of sight. Plus iPhone connectivity allows me to preview the GoPro without having to purchase the external LCD so I can fiddle with positioning to get the right angle (or change field of view via Settings).

LOL, I just got mine 2 days ago.

Great idea and concept, especially for navigation and the GoPro app.

Sweet!

I'll have to get that mount! Perfect. Go Pro and HLT here too with external engine monitoring fob and external gps. Looking forward to some good data acquisition next track day. New HLT version sounds great.

How does that work?

I have the same/similar setup. Using GoPoint bluetooth adapter for OBD data and DualXGPS (also BT) as my antenna. Throw in the GoPro connectivity as the primary recorder in v18 and have yourself quite a powerful data acquisition setup!

Side note - now if I can just find the right external mic for the GoPro so I can place it right next to the exhaust!

Sorry, should have clarified. I meant as opposed to having the phone mounted on the windshield where the wires dangle in front of me (My old setup was like that and I found it annoying having both phone and wires hanging from the center of my windshield).

I have this same phone mount but I replaced the finger screw with a regular Phillips head screw, since I never use my cd slot, and it doesn't block the buttons anymore. It was worse with my last car, because the bottom of the finger screw obscured a sizable portion of my nav screen. It's my favorite phone mount for sure, very solid.

I like the mount a lot, just worry that the foam pads will lose shape after a while and having an extra set doesn't seem like a long term solution.

I had one for a few weeks, then I accidentally knocked my hand on it and broke some plastic piece.

It's now RAM Mount for me. (Which will hold a big Note II).

Another super strong option is the Bracketron Universal Hold-it Mini. It's two dovetail pieces: Male and Female. One sticks to the dash, the other to the phone. Won't go anywhere. I use it for my Nokia and Android phones when I use the RaceChrono App. I also have one on the windshield for my bluetooth GPS (10 hertz!).

If you google it, you can see the mount, and my last pack I purchased for for cheap!

This is one of the only mounts that I've liked so far. However I'm not finding the 17.95 one on amazon. I can only see one for 24.95 and it's called the nGroove. Is that the same thing ?

Does this mount tend to vibrate or wobble much ? Or is it pretty solid while driving?

Correct as you turn the screw it widens the cd slot to keep it in place
