smoke & burning rubber smell from engine compartment

I noticed a weird smell while driving, While the car was in the garage I fired it up with the hood open. I saw smoke coming from the passenger side of the engine. Does anyone have any ideas. thanks in advance.

I'm thinking the valve cover gaskets too, I'm taking her to an independent shop tomorrow morning.

I had the same issue, had a small oil leak from the seals. Oil gathered on my heat shield and would start burrning up. Had it fixed wiped the oil away and been running smooth since. Im at 150,000 miles 3.0 2004

What should I expect for a valve cover gasket repair?

Was quoted around $600. How urgent of a repair is this if its a small leak?

I would think it should be in the $300-350 range to have it done incl parts. I got to do it twice lately on my 530; valve cover itself had developed a stress crack which I missed the first time.
