RE Midpipe?!!?!

Did anyone else fail to notice that Rogue Engineering now makes a mid-pipe for our cars?

http://www.rogueengineering.com/rogue/MZ4EX/MZ4CP.html

That's awesome, so now with a mid-pipe, x-pipe and rear cans we can fab together our own cat-back exhaust!

Let the rasp begin! I am seriously considering grabbing a mid-pipe and x-pipe

Since when are our Sec1 cats unmonitored?

US cars only have O2 sensors in the headers. So, as stated, it "Eliminates factory unmonitored catalytic converters."

Yeah, I'm always assuming one would get aftermarket/Euro headers (eliminating primary cats) if undertaking the the cat-back for real performance gains.

I am interested in knowing what the performance benefit of it is with leaving everything stock except removing the second cat, any ideas?

Seems really simple, cheap and without affecting emissions much.

Most likely, with me guessing...you will lose torque on the low end but gain HP in the mid/high range.

I think you would gain all around, maybe 5-10 hp.

I spoke to Ben (the owner) a few nights ago and for people with aftermarket headers (euro) he is offering an alternate solution. First off, he needs a car to experiment on (I can lend him mine since it will not be driven winter time). As far as pricing, he estimated about 250 for 200 cell cats (optional), 3 hours of labor (I think he charges about 100/hr) plus 475 for the pipes so roughly 1k for a set of pipes with 200 cell cats and the bungs aka euro friendly

I might be interested in buying this. After buying a Euro header, having a complete system, ready to bolt up, with new cats, no check engine light, and I think 100% emission compliant would have some benefits. Plus would be easy to go back to 100% stock if it really bothered someone at time of sale (even though there wouldn't be much of a reason to ever do it).

Interested in hearing more on pricing.

The "he needs a car to experiment on" and "roughly $1k" made me think the price isn't fixed yet.

Also, isn't it $250 for each cat not total (or $500) + plus $300 labor + $475 = $1275.

Surprised if it is $250 total for both cats but maybe I don't understand.

I guess a set price would come after we can get a certain number of interested parties and potentially a group buy discount. As I said I am willing to lend him my car for fitment purposes.

You can get the cats for a little less. I think I paid $210 shipped.

I'm curious as to why someone would go through the trouble though. You already have small cats in the stock section 1 (granted they are 400 cell ceramic). Just buy a used section 1 for $450 and weld in O2 bungs, proven to pass emissions.

I think the Rogue piece is great as-is. It's a simple, cheap solution to guaranteed horsepower that is highly unlikely to affect emissions with stock headers. Headers are a pain and can get expensive. Pop in this piece and get easy horsepower and sound.

I wish I could be 100% sure it would pass California emissions.
Would really like to get this and the X-pipe to go along with my R.E. cans.

Well you would have to do smog test what....every year?

Keep your original section 1 around...just sayin

As long as they don't look under the car it should be fine since they're supposedly not doing a tail pipe test anymore, right?

Edit: For this reason I had my DKF Section 1 coated in cast iron grey to be inconspicuous.

The guys I take my cars to don't know what they're looking at, and don't care.
They certainly wouldn't know how many cats are supposed to be on an '06 E85 with an S54.
If their 486-DX says it passed, you pass.

And that's why I take my cars there.

I agree, however who said our stock Sec1 is 400 cell? They're a lot shorter than their European counterpart, and I thought the last conversation had them closer to 200 count?

Regardless, the real HP increase lies in getting rid of the cats in the US header, not in keeping them and getting a this RE cat-back system.

I thought that was a given?

Not saying that this is the solution to power on stock headers, more so the most power you can get without getting rid of stock headers.

I have to go through emissions still (steel belt) so I cannot simply go aftermarket.
