Well this sucks - someone just keyed my car
In a gated lot surrounded by about 15 marked police cars someone slashed my driver's front tire and keyed the shit out of the driver's side/hood of my car. About 10 of the police cars got hit, too.
Now wrong as it may be, I 'get' how/why someone might target 'the man'/the city/the police department as an outlet to express whatever anger/issues they might have. But personally owned vehicles? That's somehow crossing a line in my mind. So any Washington State criminal defense/labor attorneys out there that will defend me should I catch the person responsible for this offense? I have a feeling I'll need it if I'm present at the time. Kidding, of course... ...sort of. |

That is disgusting; I hope you get the car fixed to your satisfaction quickly.
My prayers go out to the ba$tard who did this, as he will surely need them if you are fortunate enough to catch him.

WTF why do people have zero appreciation for other people's property! Shit like this make we want to move to Germany where people have respect for a vehicle. Some day there will be a force field bubble you can set when you park your car! So sorry to hear and best of luck getting her back!

This almost rivals when my Z3 got broken into and literally torn to shreds to get to the Valentine one at the top of my windshield. They also hit an M6 that day and did the same thing, but for some reason slashed their tires as well.
The logic behind criminal activity is incredible. |

Probably true - I am basing my assumption on a number of Germans I have met over the years that moved to the US for work. They complained constantly about door dings, key scratching, parking too close. All of them told me that never happens in Germany. Small sample size though so not representative...

All the body work is done and primer has been curing for the last couple days. Should be into paint the beginning of next week. Planning on letting the paint cure for a week or so in the garage and a clear bra application after that. 5 years of road time has made it clear: the front bumper takes 99.99999% of anything kicked up on the road, followed by the windshield absorbing that last .ooooo1%. So I probably will just be doing the front bumper cover with the film and calling it good.
A couple follow up comments+clarifications: there are cameras in the police lot at work. They just suck and the suspect looks like a gray blob coming and going. All they were good for was establishing the time it occurred. Suspect mashed a cigarette into the hood of one of the patrol cars, spit on another, and cut himself going over the barbed wire fence, leaving blood behind: all collected for DNA. Running through CODIS returned no hits, suggesting juvenile... or adult suspect not on file (yet). Just a matter of time, now. I've formulated my (completely legal/non-job-jeopardizing) plan for revenge once a suspect is identified: I contract with a number of civil legal firms in Seattle where I provide computer and cell phone forensic services (I get all that deleted/hidden stuff back for them). One has offered to work pro-bono and make the suspect/suspect's parents lives a hellish legal quagmire for the foreseeable future. Wage garnishments, leans on real property. All kinds of fun stuff in the works. Since we'll likely never see a dime in restitution, at least Ill be able to exact a little mental revenge. And again, the beauty is it'll be completely legal and appropriate given the circumstances. No stupid back-alley cop justice BS (as temporarily nice as that might feel, it's something I'm moralistically opposed to). Speaking to parking in Germany, it's somewhat true: the Germans are a car culture, for sure and that item if personal property is generally held above other material possessions (generally speaking). Some of that has changed over the last few years with the younger generation of drivers, but overall, it still seemed true to me. It also depends on your location, too, though. Get around the college towns and you'd bee shocked how close they'll park to each other and the stuff you'll see. |

I can assure you your position in support of an adult police officer physically assaulting a juvenile offender in custody is in the significant minority. It's one of those things people say all too easily. When you hear of it actually happening in a civilized society we (rightfully) expect heads to roll. Assuming (again) it IS a kid, it's simply the law of the land: parents are 100% civilly & financially liable for the actions of their children until the age of 18, given up to the custody of another, or legally emancipated. Parents can take their dollar's worth of flesh how they deem appropriate. But the ball is in their court. The criminal system will seek the same judgement and will also be granted civil restitution (ultimately) from parents as well for the damage to the police cars (should total about $20,000). Just the way it works. If you don't like it don't have kids, keep them in line, give them up to someone who's willing to take a shot at parenting them, or assist them in their emancipation. Just the reality of how things are. Huge responsibility deciding to have/raise a kid. Not to be taken lightly. |
