Ping, weeeee, oh no! - Sunglasses holder spring/clip

So I popped open the sunglasses holder in my coupe yesterday, and the spring/clip assembly pinged past my ear. I found the spring, but not the clip and now the sunglasses holder door is permanently open. It's probably under the seat somewhere, but I had a good look and can't find the darn thing.

Anyone had this happen and know the replacement part number? Are there any other uses for that space? -The holder is not that good for sunglasses anyway.

(btw - Merry Christmas everyone!)

Hmmm, 55 bucks, not as much as I though it might be. 50 with a BMWCCA card, and with tax probably right back at 55.

Gripster, sorry it went "ping, weeeee, oh no!" but that's the best thread title in a long time!

Doesn't seem right, eh? I guess they figure if you're in a Roadie with the top down, your sunglasses will be on your face?

I used a rare earth magnet to find a tiny screw I dropped in mine, only took a few minutes to hear the clink.

It's an absolute pain in the ass to install correctly. It clips into a metal surround that is above the headliner. I had to remove both sun visors and A-pillar trim to drop headliner so I could get my hand up there to make it clip in correctly. Good luck.

Yup. I suppose the 1970s Elton John big as your face style might not, but I've had no problems with various styles.

The price of this part has skyrocketed to over $400 - crazy, right?!? Does anyone have a DIY as to how to replace the spring? or where to find said spring?

Talk about inflation!!! Must be very few of them left due the poor design. RealOEM lists it at 55 bucks which must be the original price back in the day.
