swapping '03 for '05 tail lights

Hi,

I am new to the forum I am looking to buy a used Z4 and I have my eye on a 2003 BUT I don't like the amber/orange tail light. I want to get the '05 tail lights for the 2003 Z4 if that is the one I end up getting. I saw on the forum that the lights are a direct swap but when I called BMW to get pricing, they told me I would have to buy the lights PLUS a new trunk and something else (connector kit or something like that). Is this true? Thanks in advance for your responses. Bye!

Markus, what rims do you have on your Z4? M3 reps? Brand? Where did you get them?

Hi, Actually I called around a few different dealerships and two of them told me that if I wanted to put the 2005 tail lights on a 2003-2004 Z4, it is a direct fit and all I would have to buy are the lights...nothing else. So the first place I called was clueless I guess or they thought I wanted to have the 2006 lights which would be nice but it's too much work for me. I just want to get rid of the ugly orange circles on the tail lights.
The 2005 tail lights are around $200/light.

I went to see the 2003 z4 I was planning to buy and was not impressed with the condition so I think I'll just stick to buying a 2005 since it's newer, I won't have to do anything to the tail lights and it still have some of the factory warranty left.
Although if I find a great deal on a '03-'04, at least I know that I can change out the lights with no problem.
Hope this helps!

Z20 how did this mod go? Did you get it working? I want to do this mod! I know I would need a new bumper and the new lights but what about the wiring side?

I hope you can help with this!!!

I believe the '05 taillamp assy with the white t/s lens will fit the 03-04 with the amber t/s lens w/o modification.

You can buy a side and tail light kit direct from BMW. IT will turn the side lights to white and instead of orange in the center of your brake lights it will be white with orange lights inside. IT cost me about 300 euro for my 03 3.0 roadster.
