Wow, didn't know they were so expensive! What model supercharger is it bolted onto? I'd have to research to see if it would work on a VT2-500 kit

Had a little vacation last weekend and the car ran great for the nearly 2000 mile round trip; surprisingly a great highway cruiser too. Some of you may have seen my car or myself at Bimmerfest... I want to thank Jan and all the guys at ApexRaceParts for having me in their booth. I was able to meet a bunch of great people this year.

Bimmerfest 2013 by ApexRaceParts by M detaR, on Flickr

Also, I was able to meet Nik, Jeff, and the rest of the guys at VF at their shop. They gave me a tour of the shop and let me partake in some testing and fine tuning of the Z4M kit. They really know their stuff and were great to work with and learn from. Really made the trip that much more worth it! Can't say enough good things about VF and their kit.

The kit has ~6000 miles on it and is running perfect.

I realized I never updated the AFR graphs from before; so here is a couple runs from tonight:

I thought I saw your car in pictures but wasn't sure. Great to hear that the kit is treating you well. It is pushing me in the direction of getting one in the near future.

Anyone considering this should check out VAC. They have their 10% off right now and another deal on the VF570. The kit without shipping ends up being $7,290. Not bad.

Looking at FI now as well as I think it will put the icing on the cake. Really debating the vf570 and ess525. Local z4mc owner just installed the VF and is having issues with the car just shutting off on him in 4th gear. Can't seem to fix the issue yet.

It completely changes the car; so much power! I've been thinking of putting the stock mufflers back on for a bit to make it a sleeper...

When was his kit installed? VF should be able to take care of that pretty easily.

I have euro headers, and everything else is... stock I guess. I have electric exhaust cutouts right before the mufflers, which change the game completely in terms of potential volume, but I'm gonna be selling them. With the electric cutouts open, its too raspy for my taste.

With euro headers and 8psi of boost, the car sounds fairly tame and quiet. Very few low pitched sounds, very little bass in the tone. Zero drone of course.

Went to the dyno again today. Got the same peak whp and 10 more peak wtq; though the mid range gains were great. Almost 30 more whp and 20 more wtq at some points. the kit has about 7250 miles on it and still runs amazing!

AFR is good too.
Turns out that all those stories about the fuel pump not being sufficient is a load of crap and the rise in afr was set in the first/initial tuning mapping.

I think someone already said that on page 3........

Glad they solved it with a better tune (and more torque!). But that probably means that they advanced the ignition timing (that can mean more wear in the future though (monitor your rodbearings))

473whp max and 300ftlb(wheel) from 4500rpm to 8000rpm are very nice specs indeed!

Stock fuel pump hitting about 9.5 psi. There's still more in it.

I recently started doing blackstone tests; so I have my eye on them.

You're hitting 9.5psi now Andrew? Is that on purpose or is it spiking? Part-throttle on my car is really shitty, even after I paid VF to look over everything. I need a new charger core unit to get higher peak power and torque, but part-throttle will still be crap I think. How is yours? I can induce idle hunt easily, EVERY single time. VF said that it has to do the injectors kicking in and going out, but I test drove an E92 M3 with VF's 625 kit and it ran smooth as butter. I even tried to induce idle hunt while parked, but it was perfect. I think they just took shortcuts on our software

I'm hitting 9.5; I can spike it to 11. Mine runs great; though I do maintain it well. Just did a second valve adjustment at 33k.

I'm not sure if spiking above the 9psi that they rated the kit at is good, but I guess as long as your AFRs are still okay, then there's no need to worry really.

Wish you were local so that I could test drive your car. My part-throttle especially during let-offs is just horrid. Even VF was able to replicate the issues. Not sure how it's acceptable to them to let my car continue to run the way it does, even after getting paid to check things over for me

Could you do me a favor and do a short recording of your idling + light throttle taps? When I barely tap the throttle, and immediately let off, my idle fluctuates significantly. So when I'm driving, if I have spurts of on-throttle then off-throttle, the car is not smooth whatsoever. Power delivery seems more like a turbocharger instead of a supercharger. And those local to me agree after having taken my car for test-drives (both NA and SC owners alike).

A spike is caused by a rev during shifting or hitting the limiter; it's not intentional. lol

I don't see how this helps your problem...

Yeah well in general spiking over what the tune was meant for could be dangerous yeah? Hence why I brought up the safety issue. But like I said, if AFRs are still good up past 9psi then who cares, it's all good!

As for the recording, it would help because then I could see whether or not my car is the only one with the idle issues. Can you do a short recording for me? With light throttle taps and let-off? I want to see if your idle behaves the same as mine, where it dips and comes back up. It tries to steady itself, but is not smooth at all.

I don't particularly care about my power delivery nor output right now, since I'm banking on those to be up to par after I do a charger core swap. VF said they would send one to me with a core charge, since they found that my unit is out of date and uses a different impeller; and is most likely the culprit of my lower output.

There's no load on the engine though; it happens while shifting or hitting the limiter. AFRs don't matter...

Isn't that spike the result of the throttlebodies closing (during shifting you step off the gas) and that it takes some time to build up vacuum to open the blow off valve?
The supercharger keeps pumping air (because the engine is still running @ high revs) so there is a point that pressure builds up (but that obviously doesn't result in extra power; the TB's are closed)
