GF Performance Chip Kit

Hi,
First time on site. I have a 2005 Z4 with 40,000 miles on it. Somebody is trying to talk me into this GF perfomance chip kit, does any one have any thoughts? Sounds to good to be true.

Thanks, Gary G

Never waste your time with any "chips" or "turbine kits"

If anything they will cause damage to your engine

From my basic knowledge about them the chips tell your car that the air coming in to the engine is colder and mixes the fuel accordingly which will make it run rich all the time

the turbine kits "electric powered turbo's" don't suck enough air in to be beneficial in any way.. I think top gear did a bit on them and they used more fuel and got no gains

For the 2.5 there isn't really many ways to go performance wise - bang for your buck would probably be a lightweight flywheel or bolt on supercharger - or an upgrade to Z4M

Thank you very much, if it sounds to good it really isn't.

No worries.

Unfortunately that's the case - when it comes to cars there's almost no such thing as cheap horsepower

I LOL'd when I read the discription for that...!

Gain 60hp and save 3-4mpg and lower emissions!!! All for only $69, previously a $399.99 value...

While that particular chip seems cheesy to the max I am sure there are other chips out there that will indeed help with performance on 2.5 and 3.0 cars. I don't have much experiance looking into that catagory but this one at least uses actual software changes and the discription is something that really will increase performance.

Cars are tunned to safe values from the factory with fuel milage in mind. Altering the peak limits during diffrent modes of operation can gain you alot of improvment over stock. Now you will be trapped into High grade fuel as timing requires it and under throttle it will use more of it. But, there is no reason to shy away from performance chips if you can track down some reviews and such before you buy.

If it sounds too good to be true it is.

$1 per horsepower is crazy cheap lol

I had the Conforti Shark Injector and Dinan intake before adding the supercharger, and I can say there are definite performance benefits to be had. Sharked M54's have had dyno-proven gains of 5-10 hp, though that's not where the real benefits lie. The throttle remapping alone was worth the price of entry, and the 7000 rpm rev limit increased performance as well because I was able to stay in gear longer. My original intent was to pair the new rev limit with a 3.64 final drive. I wouldn't recommend staying around 7000 rpm very long because of the harmonic vibrations from the crank / oil pump nut failures associated with the M54.

I ended up going FI spur of the moment when new VF kits were released and simultaneously put on sale for 25% off. The decision was in no way related to any disappointment in the Shark software. Overall the car simply drove better after the flash. The connect between the driver and throttle just felt "right." If I had a few hundred dollars to spend on one mod for the car, the Shark would be it (and this is coming from a guy who has spent $10k in mods on his 3.0i).

By the way, if you do get the Shark Injector, forego the USB cable as the intended "updates" aren't available yet.
