A couple days ago I was driving down a side road in Jackie. A guy in a MG-B came the other direction - I stuck my hand out and gave him a thumbs up (I also have a Triumph roadster). Even though I was in a 30-40 year NEWER Bimmer he waved and smiled back, appreciating the acknowledgement.
IMHO, BMW owners DESERVE the reputation as arrogant assholes. Not all of us, but more of us than not. MG owners will acknowlege (reluctantly) Triumph owners as fellow Brittish car owners (a.k.a. Idiots!) But we recognize the specialized enthusiam of fellow Brittish car owners. FWIW Jaguuar owners are even worse!
BUT.... we ALL recognize the importance of ALL Brittish car owners in keeping the marque alive.
So when will ALL Zed owners start working together to make our cars (Z3 OR Z4) something worth keeping? As I stated earlier, I also own a Triumph roadster. My roadster of choice is a Tr-7 - the "wedge". Some of you here are old enough to remember the ads "Triumph - the shape of things to come". These ads were back in the mid 70s - and they were dead on.
Our cars - Z3s or Z4s may never be considered "classics" - but there will always be a dedicated following. My TR7 was one of 127,000 made - certainly not a limited edition run. However, there are maybe 20% of those on the road today. Yes, I realize that it is primarily due to them being $hitboxes! But, those of use who still have them in running condition cherish them.
putting aside the Z3 vs. Z4 arguements, in 2030 0ur cars will be a rarity. From the Z3 1.9 to the Z4 ///M there will be few around then. Hopefully there will be enough of us who are still willing at that time to sink far more then they are worth to keep them alive. WE will be the life blood of the Z3/Z4.
After all this rant, I urge all of you Zed owners to recognize our uniqueness and embrace it. Become part of a what will too soon become a limited fraternity. Whether you mod the hell out of your car of leave it stock, appreciate what you have before it is gone.

I know most of the M owners in the area, so when I do see them, the wave is expected

most of the people driving around here with bmws fit the stereotypes, which is unfortunate, because even jay leno is kind enough to wave back, and he was in a car much better than some bimmer

In my city alone I have spotted 3 M coupes and 2 M roadsters. Only the roadsters have waved back or acknowledged w/ a fly by. For some reason the coupes just don't seem all that enthusiastic. On another note all 5 z4m's spotted were driven by white haired men in there 60's. I think that's pretty cool

When I go to the drag strip, there's always that one person who thinks I just put M badges on a z4. Then again I didn't know this car existed until I went to the dealership to buy my m3

Another funny story I can't get over....
After purchasing my vehicle I went to dinner with some buddies, and when we hit the parking lot they all started commenting on what a douche the z4 owner was for putting m badges on the z4. I told them it was mine and it was a real M. They were still in disbelief until I popped the hood. Their face priceless! I wonder how many people think our cars are just badged up z4's.....

The quad exhaust should be a dead giveaway...but I guess most people probably can't tell a Z4 from a 6-series, much less recognize the subtle M design elements.

There seem to be more than the usual number of BMW enthusiasts (or at least drivers) where I have been working for the last year. I know a few of them but most I have not met -- I just see their cars in the parking lot. There is a relatively new silver M5 (with never a speck of dirt), a silver 335i (he also has an E36 M3 which he tracks), a gorgeous blue Z4M coupe, a silver Z4M Roadster, a silver Z3, a black X3, a tan 135i and I think 3 E46 convertibles. Plus probably a few others I am missing. Out of maybe 100 cars total in the parking lot.

I usually wave at fellow Z4 drivers, especially if the top is down. I usually get a wave back. But then lots of people wave around here for no apparent reason. People in pickup trucks wave the most, I think. It probably happens more often when I am driving my Dodge pickup, but pretty often when I am driving the Z4 too.

Waving at other Z4 owners

I was riding around Dallas the other day (shortly after buying my Z4 3.0si) with the top down and saw another Z4 coming at me.
I got excited and extended the arm to give a big wave. Not being used to driving a convertible, the wind almost ripped my arm off. Felt like my rotator cuff ripped a little.
Forgot I was doing 70mph.
Funny but painful. I did get a wave back tho.

I did the same thing when I was a kid. My grandpa had a 1978 Mercedes 450SL convertible. BEATUIFUL car. anyway, we were driving down to southern indiana (form indianapolis) and when he punched it i stuck my arms up like i was on a roller coaster.

Honestly, sometimes I wish the coupe turned into a vert, a la fast and the furious (i know, i know...) minus the paint job, wing, decals...

I was actually giving you grief about the car name.
Is there a story behind your blue 007Mcoupe named Sheila?

oh ok, just making sure you didn't think i was lusting after taht supra or something...i mean, that decal IS the shiznit....lol

Sheila comes from an old internet Tv show, Red vs Blue. It was a few guys who played HALO and dubed their voices into it. It's pretty funny. My fave character was the blue guy, caboose. he fell in love with the tank, named Sheila.

Just go with it....hahaha

Sometimes I wave at folks that I don't know. Maybe I'm warped, but I get a hoot when they wave back!

Cheers!!
