inward headlamps ???
I have looked through the manuals and tried a bunch of combinations and still cannot find anything.
What are they for? on my 335i those were the steering headlamps and would only operate when following the steering wheel angle when in Automatic mode but on the Z4 they simply don't have any purpose. anyone?

If you have bi-xenon headlights they are purely for aesthetic purposes. Well aside from the fact that the angel eye bulb sits inside the inner projectors other then that it is totally obsolete.

I think I'm missing something, do you have a pic of "inward headlams"?

Thanks, I guess I wouldn't expect those to be obsolete or useless. I can't believe they don't really do anything.

I didn't either till I checked out the back of the headlight. The only thing I found it used for was to house the BA9S bulb which illuminates the inner angel eyes. So it's not "entirely" obsolete. I expected it to be high beam "flash2pass" like my E46 but guess not.

You can still use it that way, it just won't be as bright..

You know I was wondering the same thing. I am also disliking the fogs because they look stupid when the headlights are also on (not pure white or as bright)

Use what? The inner ones dont do anything so I wouldn't be able to use them as flash2pass. Are you comparing projector flash to reflector flash?
Hawkeye: Well the low beams are HID (if you have the option) and the fogs are halogens. The only way to achieve an equally bright, color matched option is with HID fogs (see sig). |

There used for flash-to-pass, the xenon high beams don't ramp-up fast enough so the inside lights are halogen. When you pull the lever towards you they illuminate, when you push it forward the bi-xenon illuminates. thats the way it works on my 03

i have an 04 with HID lights and my inner headlight is regular halogen and the outer ones are HID projectors.
when i pull on the left control stalk it activates the inner halogen headlight as a high beam. when i push foreward the left control stalk it stops in place and activates the HID high beam. i would imagine if my z had DRL activated the inner halogen headlight would be aimed lower and assume the DRL function. |

That is NOT how the facelifted Z4s are. My car I have tested it extensively and even seen the inside of the inner headlights they are in fact empty. On the facelift Z4s both the Flash2Pass and Hi-Beam are activated by the shutter on the low beam projector. I would have definitely preferred a halogen inner over an HID flash which we all know takes time to warm up and also is bad on/off usage of the HID system.
