WTH - My rubber broke

I went to fill up, today, and the rubber retainer on my gas cap broke. It looks like someone cut it with a knife, it broke so cleanly.

I know the entire cap can be ordered, but does anyone know if just the little rubber retainer can be ordered separately?

Thanks!

Salty

I think I found the answer to my own question in a hilarious old thread on Bimmerfest. They don't sell the rubber tether separately.

I hate when that happens.
Mine broke a while back.
Thought about fashioning a new one, but I really don't miss it.
I didn't let the cap dangle, anyway. I put it in the little holder on the flap while filling up.

I had the same thing happen to mine and I replaced it with a new one. I bought a brand new gas cap with the retainer for around $50 here in Canada so its probably a lot cheaper from a US dealer.

Dunno why everything here in Canada has to cost more than anywhere else on the planet. Are Canadians simply too polite to complain about getting ripped off perhaps?

Same here, StickMon. Someone on another forum said it was to prevent us from putting the fuel cap in the trigger mechanism of the nozzle on a gas pump. I've never even thought of doing that. If it doesn't have the trigger lock, I just squeeze the nozzle trigger until the tank is full of gas.

And I thought $30 was expensive for a gas cap.

Did you see the AfD campaign posters in Germany with the pregnant female stating "New Germans? We'll make our own." They purposely are making their rubbers weak.

I very much appreciate your kind offer. I sent you a PM. I think I'm just going to cut off the tether for now, and you may need that tether as a spare if your new one breaks.

Thanks again!
