Finally took my M-coupe to the track (Videos)
I've owned my M coupe for nearly 2 years now, but have not really have a chance to track it. Finally took it to Streets of Willow Springs on 9/18/09, more than a year after I first tracked it at Spring Mountain last spring. I was quite suprised that it has such lively handling. It was quite entertaining. Enjoy!
Here is my fast lap of the day: Last edited by colatkitty; 08-11-2012 at 05:19 PM.. |

Willow Springs International Raceway (the big track) is a lot more fun than Streets for the MZ4 Coupe, although Streets is significantly more technical...
The L.A. chapter of BMW CCA is hosting a 2 day event there in November: http://www.bmwclubla.org/calendar.php#15 |

That's a very good lap time. I saw those stock tires. There were toast. You also had to brake super early because of the stock brakes. Not to mention the stock alignment. I'm sure the Z4 would give your S2000 a run for its money with better pads and tires.

You seem to be fighting a lot of snap over-steer which isn't normally a "feature" of our cars. What's your suspension/tire setup?

When my last set of tires were worn and heat cycled many times my car drove like that.... New (good) tires and it was like driving a cadillac...and my lap times dropped by several seconds..... |

Yeah, it is a combination of both old tires and me trying to get everything I can out of the car. Also, I did not have a chance to get an alignment done since I installed the coilovers, so my alignment may be all screwed up.
I am running KW V3's on the factory setting, and 4 year old, and several heat cycled 245F/275R RA1's. I was trying to wear out the tires so I can mount a new set, but man do these things last. They just don't wear out... I have spent a lot of time in the passenger seats with 2 of my friends who also track their M coupes, one completely stock, and another with KW clubsports. Both cars can easily be rotated at will, but both are running less tire/wheel stagger vs. stock. |

Thread revival!
Almost three years since my last time at Streets of Willow with my M coupe. Similar track conditions as the last time, but with more mods done on my car, I was able to shave almost 3 seconds off my lap time. Here is a video. |
