Bought an FR-S for daily driving

I love driving the M Coupe and wanted to drive it every chance I get behind the wheel. The problem is though, I have a long commute (80 mile round trip) and putting that many miles on such a car for driving to work just didn't make much sense to me. On the other hand, I don't want a boring car for dd.

After a few test drives and fuel-logs of owners over the past year, I decided to pull the trigger and got myself a firestorm FR-S. It's hard to compare the driving experience with the M Coupe because they simply don't compare. In short, I'd say it's the best compromise of a fun to drive car with good gas mileage. Also, I can drive like I stole it every day and not blowing past the legal limit.

M Coupe welcoming the new addition w/ open arms. Don't mind the paint chips on the grilles...need to get new ones soon.

Nice pick up! If I didn't have two kids, I would have an FR-S/BRZ as my DD too, since I have a similar round-trip commute.

Excellent choice of DD. I just picked up a Subaru Impreza and love the gas milage I'm getting out of it. And the AWD is great for Chicago winters.

I'm getting 32MPG for the last 5 fill-ups. Much improved over 22MPG on the M Coupe. EDIT: misread your post earlier, I bought it used. 1 owner 5,000 miles for $21,000 OTD.

Agree...the rear seats are useless!

MN winters are just as bad...good winter tires will take care of that though.

getting 30 mpg highway, 25 city. can't complain at all compared to 19-21 mpg in the m

Yea, I found a 128i with Manual, M-Sport Package, no Sunroof. Perhaps the perfect car to turn into a future track rat

It's funny when everyone close to you asked why you bought the same kind of car as your M Coupe but less special...I paused for a second and said that's exactly the point.

I had a auto 128i as a loaner and was disgusted with the fact that it was a 46,000 car and felt like a gutless Bavarian rental car and yes I know the z4mc has such an opulent interior. I must try the 135 flavor I suppose.

This. He never mentioned the need for increased utility.

Had DWSs on mine before having a winter vehicle. They are amazing for all year driving. Handle the snow brilliantly.

Congrats to your new DD.
I bet this thing is a lot of fun to drive!

I bought the Z4 as my DD replacement.

Sometimes it's nice driving a fun car that's not super special

Just curious why you chose the Scion over the Subaru?

Auto is completely different than a manual. The autos bog the whole engine, just like the 328

The M Sport Suspension does firm up the ride, and with replacing the bushings with M3 equivalents will tie the whole rear end together. In the end I don't need something that rides like a buck for a DD.

The fact that I got it for $26k with 4k miles on it was too good to pass

That's awesome you're getting that kind of gas mileage! I would fill my M Coupe in the morning for work and by the time I back it into the garage it shows less than 3/4 remains...and the first 1/4 usually yields the most mileage.

I didn't favor one over the other in terms of brand really. It was solely based on price and availability. There were more used FR-S when I looked.
