3.0i to get M rear suspension upgrade

Hey guys,

I recently purchased a rear axel (suspension and all + driveshaft) off an M coupe. I was under the impression that it was direct bolt on. Can anyone confirm or refute this?

I do not think this is a direct bolt on, but someone here may be more able to give the details.

You at least need the rear subframe as well. I think (but can't absolutely confirm) that this plus everything out to the hubs is all you need.

Yeah it has the subframe, it is pretty much the entire drivetrain except the transmission, front suspension and engine

only thing I would look into is the drive shaft(length and bolt pattern) but otherwise it should all fit

I know the 3.0si shares the same ZF type H transmission as the M Models, so there may need some minor modifications for it to fit in the 3.0 non si, that will be nice, really nice to have a real locking diff.

I have to totally agree, I have driven 3 different M Roadsters/coupes and the rear is phenomenal compared to the non-M versions due to the M variable lock differential. I think it really is that good, no stepping out what so ever due to gear changing etc.

I believe Simpson Motorsports did this mod as well to a 3.0i.

If you can, would you take a picture of the M and Si rear sway bars together? Do you think the M bar would fit on the Si suspension? TIA

It doesn't. I looked into this when I was getting bars for my SI a couple of years ago.

If the factory utilized the same pick up points for both, that will be a sweet swap.
Often times OEM points are already welded in place for all options/configurations...so good luck,I hope it works for you. I have a M car I'm trying to collect thats totaled for these same reasons.LSD.

Well, that's been covered. What he needs to know is if the pick-up points for mounting are all there whether M or non.

I am almost certain the contact points are the same, but will have to wait and see to find out for sure, maybe someone who knows definitively can chime in?

Hack already said it was a direct bolt on which implies it has the same pick up points. You will only know for sure when you try it...

Hack...are you saying that the body to subframe pick-upp points are the same....only the subframe to components are vastly different ?

If thats true...the only hurdle will be any driveshaft variances...such as length or yokes.
