How to get the Bluetooth Code
Hi All,
I have a 2006 Z4 3.0 SI that I recently acquired. Beautiful car, but I don't have the Bluetooth code to pair my cellphone to the Bluetooth feature of the car. A dealer has told me that there is a module in the trunk behind a panel; and the module has the code printed on it. For the life of me, I can't find the module. Does anyone know where the darn thing is? Cheers! Huzz |

You could search couldn't you Huz? You seemed so forum knowledgeable and everything before this post Why disappoint?!?
If you open your trunk and take off the plastic piece the is behind your seats there is the bluetooth module in there. It will take more than just a few minutes for that process. Otherwise if you have a little white laminated card that came with your manual it is on there as well. http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthre...bluetooth+code Here is a picture, you are looking for the TCU I believe. Ron Stygar is a BMW guru for sure! Got these off of Bimmerfest.com

But thank you very much for that info! The card with the pass key was nowhere to be found. You're right though - I'll run a search next time. Nevertheless - thanks again for taking the time to help me out. I really appreciate that! Have a great weekend! Huzz |

I was in the same situation with the same car. Dealer used a scanner of some sort, retrieved the code in <5 minutes. Bonus: Charged me nothing, and I did not buy the car there, though I do use them for service (warranty) work on the 3er.

Yes, they scan your key to get mileage and car information when you take it into a BMW dealership. It may be on there as the key hold a lot of informatio/settings I am not positive about this though.

Guys, may I ask one more question?
The concept of getting access to the module to get the pass key is straightforward enough. But what of the plastic clips that hold that bulkhead in place - are they dificult to remove? I've looked at them and I'm worried that I would destroy them if I try to take the bulkhead off. Do they unscrew? Thanks! Huzz |

Having partially disassembled mine before the dealer visit, I believe the side ones unscrew, while the bottom and rear ones pop off. Putting the screw-on ones back together is a whole other issue, however. I gave up and said "to hell w/it". Go to the dealer if it's not too inconvenient; so much easier!

Welp,
I asked the local shop to pull the panel in the trunk to get the bluetooth PK code while they were doing a few other things for me. The guy there was confident that he could get the code - and equally confident that it would not work! So - I get the car back, drive home as I was in a rush to get to an appointment - and find that the code works just fine - but my roof doesn't !! I guess the guy tripped one of those switches back there that can limit roof operation. So, on Monday, back the car goes!! (In fairness. he's a good chap - anyone can make a mistake). In the meantime, my cell phone paired with the car very easily once I had the correct PK number from the TCU module. But I don't seem to be able to get the phone book to load from my phone to the car. Has anyone got any tips? I've reviewed the car's manuals and they are not clear on that; plus I've looked around this forum and don't see any discussion of this. Cheers! Huzz |

Unless your phone is a "BMW authorized phone" on their list, its functionality will be limited. My wonderful Nextel work phone allows send/recieve and PTT using the phone only. No phone book or access to it from the car itself, just the 2-way audio. Meanwhile, my wife's XC70 does everything regardless of the phone's maufacturer or service provider. Go figure.

Thanks El!
I'll see if I can figure out the manual once more. Its hard to understand IMHO! In the meantime though, I'm happy that the hands free bluetooth feature works as well as it does. For an incoming call, the stereo shuts down and I get a phone ringing sound - and the radio displays the caller ID information. The button on the steering wheel works properly to answer or end the call. And the call sound quality is good, plus the microphone on the steering column apparently picks up my voice "loud and clear". Cheers! Huzz |

Yeah, the phonebook will not be picked up on most phones. You can program your own voice dialing into the car though, that is simple and in the manual.

Thanks Hawkeye!!
I'll have to give that a try over the weekend. And I'm happy to report that my power top's operation has been fully restored by the local shop. Yes, even in the cool November temperatures of only 40F here, my kid insisted on top down on the way home from daycare. Not that I was going to object - winter storage time is coming before the end of this month and I plan to enjoy the car as much as possible before then. Thans again Hawkeye! Huzz |

I finally got a chance to try the voice dialling through the car's bluetooth feature.
And it works great! North American phone numbers are in the format NPA NXX-XXXX.
Very cool!!! You can also use "redial number" as your first command to redial the last number. The voice recognition is actually quite good. I'll have to review the command list to see more neat tricks! Huzz |

You can also just say the whole number all at once if you don't want to pause and wait for a "continue" It does not need to be in any specific format. Just say the whole 10 digits and then when it repeats and asks if correct you can also just say "dial" and it will dial. Just a few shortcuts I have found
Also, if you just press the talk button thing instead of holding it down it will call the last person you have called THROUGH YOUR CAR, not the last person you have called on your phone. This means the last person you have called using the dial name or dial number commands.

My iPhone downloads the phone book and although cumbersome I can navigate through it by scrolling with the up and down buttons. Much easier to program the frequently called numbers into the car and use that method for the call. One caveat, when programming the name into the car, don't get upset or the name will sound like a fed up person when you call it up. Need to go back in and make the names sound more civil.

Thanks Guys!!
I really like the voice activated dialing feature. Very neat! So far, I've used the following commands effectively: DIAL NUMBER. To dial a number that is not saved in the system. NAME. to start dialing a number saved in the system YES. To confirm dialing. NEW NAME. To begin saving a name and number in the system. SAVE NAME. To finish saving a name and number in the system. Cheers! Huzz |
