The problem you (we) have in any kind of comparison is a combination of rarity, difficulty, and idiocy.
Due to the rarity of our cars, the vast majority will (unfortunately) never see the track. The few that do make it to the track for published "times" are, 99.99% of the time driven by idiot magazine "editors" who firmly believe they can hop in any car and produce the best results without any seat time. This is where the problem of difficulty comes in as our cars are, beyond a doubt, almost next to impossible to just hop into and drive well (or fast) -- It takes a lot of seat time and a lot of practice learning how the car needs to be driven to get 10/10 out of it (but you become a much better driver for it). So when you combine the rarity, the idiocy, and the difficulty factors surrounding the E86/E85 ///M, you end up with very very few validated track times, 99.9% of which are logged by people who could never hope to get 6/10 out of the car, much less 10/10. My personal experience on a technical track is that while the previous gen Z06 hurts me in the straights, I kill it all day long in the twisties.

I owned two Vettes c5 and c6
there is a great deal of ignorance among the Corvette community when it comes to any car other than a vette. I enjoyed both of my corvettes but the quality of my M Roadster, unique looks and driveability stole my heart. Let them laugh if they want to i don't care. By the way M fans you can keep up with a Corvette I did and boy are they surprised when they can't loose you. Try it for yourself you'll be as surprised as them.

Ha ha!! those guys are messing with you, if a Cobalt did 2:11 then it's faster than the M5, e46 M3, and even some Corvettes as you can see in this list:
http://www.fastestlaps.com/track2.html There are many other Nurburgring time lists on the net. I can assure you that a stock front wheel drive Cobalt SS is not quicker than a z4m around the ring. I believe the time for the Z4m is 2:15 which is quicker than quite a few Vettes. The real Cobalt time is 8:22 quite impressive and it should be mentioned quicker than some older Vettes. So there. My thought would be to contact one of the forum members who is local too and have a run through one of your best twisties w/video running.
I've yet to have a vette driver keep up with me in traffic or twistie roads.....particularly Mountain/canyon roads where your level of confidence needs to be solid. Lets face it......this is an EGO issue alone. Just look at how the vette forums lit up when the GT-R was threatening their best lap times at the burg ! Hilarity ensued.....and it was a four seater v-6 in another class for cryin' out loud, |

Most BMW owners, not BMW fans, are more pompous than Vette drivers. Vette's may be faster than our toys, but you still can't get the cheap out of them. And having owned a couple, that's the problem with them. |

Or you could watch the top gear episode where they critique the Z4M and it seems quite the opposite of a "chick car"

I don't think I've ever seen one from looking at the picture, looks like a car you'd see at the rental car places though.

Well, most of the vette guys I know are "stand up folks". I have had 5 vettes and loved everyone of them! Not happy with the service from GM, but the vette is the best thing GM ever made! True, the interior could use some quality and the options like Bose stereo, navigation and sports seat are pure crap!, But that's the only complaints i ever had with my last vette! The car does get a lot of attention, and it's history is above approach! I think the vette is the best american car ever made, and anyone that drive one should be proud. I just wish "some' of the vette owners could wake up and realize, the BMW M cars and other BMW's are real sport cars as well... Damn i wish i could get a C6 vette to run me on a road course..I'm pretty sure the Z4m would win, and i have had both cars, so i think i should know!!!
