anyone has a local Chicago shop that would install a carbon roof on my coupe?

Hello all, I am about to become a new owner of 2007 z4m coupe, and already am thinking of modifications.
I was wondering if anyone has a body shop in Chicago area which would be able to install a carbon roof on my coupe. I saw an interesting post on an european forum with pics how its done. ........here it is....... http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewto...+roof&start=45
I want to do the same on mine...can anyone recommend a reputable local mechanic, versed in BMW's and able to do something like that??? Or have any of you done this modification???? Any comments will be appreciated.

They don't make carbon roof s anymore. A member here has been trying to get a group buy going for over a year now but no signs of production

Here is Dark Schnitzers thread on his CF roof build project here in the States, and some DIY comments on the process as well. From the sounds of this, there will be a lot more to come on the topic from him. if you already have a roof from somewhere else on the way, i'd just find the best body shop around to install it. Been too long for me in chicago to suggest anyone specific. Great thread here:

I believe that TC Kline still makes and sells them.

I have a friend who bought one from them a few years ago. He said for install it is 4 bolts and the weather stripping. Super easy. He said he took it to a place that does window installs. Reason is so that they can add the weather stripping to it. Wouldn't bother with a mechanic.

PM username Luminor - he was one of the first people to have one done and he's here in Chicagoland; I think he did his before Andy Cohen (Sixspeed). You can also try Fall-Line Motorsports, as they built a Z4MC into a race car with all carbon-fiber body and a V10. They used to keep the carbon fiber panels in the customer waiting area, before the car was built. IIRC, they used a shop in Milwaukee to make them, rather than TC Kline.

I'm pretty sure IND has installed roofs on e92's and would think they'd be worth speaking to. They're a good group. I'm pleased with the work they did for me.

What is the weight difference between the OEM and Carbon. Also what material is the OEM roof made of?

The original roof is a thin later of steel, it's not structural. The carbon version saves something like 4 lbs., iirc.

More importantly, it lowers the center of gravity.
