Canadian DRL running lights coding - Done
For all you guys with Canadian spec cars, I had the chance to compare and change the coding on Caddyshk's car.
I think everyone is aware that BMW in their infinite wisdom turned on all the running lights and Xenon L. beam as DRLs. Basically the only thing different between headlight switch 0 and 1 is that the interior gauges are not on in pos. 0 ....evan the license plate light is enabled as DRL OK.... here is the coding change needed for you CDN spec car owners. Coding is in the LCM there are 2 lines that need to be changed. 1. DAUERFAHRLICHT_US translation; Daytime Running lights USA CDN car is coded to aktiv change to nicht_aktiv 2. PO_ALS_DRL translation; Position lights as DRL (bumper sidelights) CDN car is coded to aktiv change to nicht_aktiv this will leave just the inner angel eyes "on" as DRL ****this was done on Z4M, not sure how this applies to Z4

There are tons of things that can be changed.
There are several threads posted here on the coding topic.

No, it doesn't take long at all.
Less than 30 min including setting up, doing backup etc.

My car was a US 3.0si that I imported into Canada. Although the dealer down there agreed to enable the DRLs for Canada, he messed up and set them to the US version of DRL, meaning that only the halos light up on my car when the engine is running and the light switch is in the OFF position.
But I actually prefer this. First, for a car with fog lamps - and as I live out east where we get pea soup thick fog - I can now run with the headlights OFF but the fog lights and taillights ON. Which I think is MUCH better. With the Canadian situation, the headlights stay lit while the fog lights are on, and you get all that glare back in your face.

Very good point.
Having the headlight glare in fog would suck.

Any way to turn off both of the orange lights below the headlights? I can do one of them but not both using Carly for BMW. I think there is an option to turn it to Euro setting that would do it but never could find a complete answer.

Do you mean when headlights are 'ON' ?
Yeah, it's a little funny. On the euro setting one of them doesn't come on with lights ....forget exactly. I think it's doable, I just need some play time on it.

It's odd that with my e90 I can turn off the turn signals with the headlights on. They only blink when in use. Car looks cleaner and nicer that way. Wish we could do that with the Z4M.

I think it's doable with a little digging.

US cars use the inner angel eyes as DRL.
Did you take the car to a CDN dealer as part of the import process. Do your other running lights also come on?. If you want to make the drive I can help you out I'm not concerned about $

I turned these ones to "nicht_aktiv" to turn off the amber lights and the rear red bumper dot.
PO_ALS_DRL - POSITION LIGHTS AS DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS (seems to turn off outer head lamp?) PIN_20_37_ALS_PO - inner amber lamps SL_VO_ANSTEUERUNG - FRONT STANDING LIGHTS CONTROL (outermost upper amber lamps, rear bumper red "dot") SIDEMARKER_US - USA SIDE MARKER LIGHTS (outer lower amber lamps) Set the following to "wert_01" in the LSZ module LAENDERVARIANTE_LSZ - COUNTRY VARIANT LIGHT SWITCH (LSZ) Thinking of turning off the xenons for DRL but the angel eye light is so dim and weak! |

When I did PO_ALS_DRL it just did the round bumper lights as DRL, but they still work with the lights ON. (Same on 3 cars)
Good info on those other settings, I haven't taken the time to investigate those.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a decent guide to using ncsexpert? I've tried looking into it before and couldnt get my head around how to do it. I really want to disable the bloody annoying beeps when the key is in the ingnition.
