z4 coupe carbon roof
Hey all, I would like to get some input on carbon roof panels for the coupes. I noticed that in the past (2008-9) there have been interest in those, and a few people were able to get them installed on their z's. TC Kline racing were selling them but the last I talked with them they had some issues with the manufacturer and the quality of the carbon panel.
I just got my alpine white/imola red z4m and I love how the carbon roof looks on those puppies. I would love to get one myself. Does anyone here knows who still manufactures them and about the quality of the product. Lets get the conversation going because I am assuming I am not the only one interested in this topic. On the other note, if the full carbon panel is not available, any thoughts on the durability of the carbon wraps, which is the best, ect. |

How durable are these? I read on 3M's website, 4-5 years if car kept outside. What if it goes bad - do you just remove the wrap? I think it may damage the underlying paint, so you have to get a new wrap?????....

Don't know the difference, probably by about 30 lb, but here I am strictly going for the looks, not the racing advantage. In any case, I realized that 3M's vinyl CF look product is not a carbon fiber but a vinyl, which can come off without damaging the underlying paint.....just an eureka moment.

can one argue that a CF top would add structural elements though? Been a while since I've read Schnitzers entire other thread...

Re;vinyl.....some colors of paint + vinyl can do what is called 'raising' and or printing due to humidity or high heat exposure over time. This problem can often be remedied via wet-sanding and compounding. However...if the paint underneath yellows......this can be permanent and require re-spray. |

Yes but it is lowering the center of gravity on the car... even though its minimal. between that and a little added rigidity, its certainly cant HURT the handling, right?
