APR CF Front Splitter Group Buy

BIMMERPOST / Classifieds
Asking Price:
None

Item Interest
After a lot of feedback and comments from post members, we are putting together a group buy for a Custom Carbon Fiber front wind splitter. Since there are not a lot of options for the Z4M out there, the goal was to bring to market a low cost, cosmetically appealing and functional front splitter.

What this piece is:
- Carbon fiber reinforced wind splitter custom made for the Z4 M
- A strong piece that can take a beating and will protect the bumper
- A functional piece that will add front end down force
- A relatively inexpensive "consumable" piece

I have been working with Tony from APR for about six months. He has been a great resource and has always provided excellent customer service.

Here is the link to the APR website:
http://www.aprperformance.com/

The group buy will be open for two weeks from Saturday January 22nd to Monday February 7th.

Price includes the splitter and two 10mm Stainless steel splitter support rods.

Retail (non-group buy):
$380

Group buy 1-9 units:
$340

Group buy 10-14 units:
$300

Group buy 15 units or more:
$272

(Prices are before shipping.)

Clarification based on member questions:

1-Splitter Support rods:
The splitter support rods are not required. The splitter has 11 mounting points to the bumper not including the support rods. Three of these mounting points are in-between the fangs. It is a very solid installation without the splitter support rods. I drove 1200 miles with the splitter installed before I added them.

The splitter support rods are recommended for track use. They add even more rigidity to the end of the splitter and they add a small amount of adjustment to change the angle of the splitter.

I mainly added them because I liked the motorsport inspired look . I also wanted try different angle settings to see what impact the adjustments would make to the driving characteristics of the coupe.

2-Installation:
I will be posting a step by step DIY with a complete list/photos of hardware needed. All hardware is available @ local home improvement stores. The group buy is for the splitter and the 10mm support rods alone.

The splitter doesn't have holes pre-drilled for mounting. This was done intentionally to keep the cost down and ensure the best fitment. In the DIY you will us your bumper to mark the exact mounting locations.

On a side note, the Zpost community made a big impression on APR with this GB. I think we really blindsided them. Just goes to show that while our production numbers are limited, we are enthusiasts not to be ignored

What permanent damage will be made by installing the splitter? Worried about leaving a hole in the top 10mm strut spot inside the upper bumper. Just making sure it wouldn't be too terribly noticed if removed. It would be cool if A&R would allow these GB purchasers the opportunity to buy replacement splitters at same cost if damaged.

FWIW, I'm planning to get the longer drop rods and fasten to the underside of the bumper horizontal cross piece.
I think it will need to be beefed up a bit with a plate to take the load.

For what you are talking about;
I would just plug the hole with a dummy bolt if you remove the splitter at some point.
On the underside you would never see it.

I think you and I are going to be mounting it pretty much the same way. This is pretty much what I have planned in my head. I want to try and avoid the visable struts and mount it like Earl's splitter

We have six people and this has not even been up for a day! Lets get the 15 people so we all can save some cash for other mods!

Count me in for the 10 or more price.
I don't know how to add my name to the buy list.

Crfine88 -Thanks so much for all the effort you've put into this project and you on-going mod details!! ( I'm still thinking about the SC i had asked your input on a while ago.

InTgr -How do you get your stuff from US (I find the brokerage fees/shipping to NS
very high)?
Thanks
