Enabling M-Track mode on a Z4MC (Toronto area)

I've tracked my coupe over 6-7 days this summer and found the normal DSC to be fairly aggressive at cutting power on corner exit.

I think my tire choice further exacerbates this, since running 245/40/18 front and 265/35/18 rear puts the relative circumference of the rear tires something like 2% lower than stock.
I think this makes DSC thinks there is always an extra 2% of wheel spin and so it intervenes earlier.

For those of you that have it (Mirko and a few others from BMW Trillium days), is it worth getting the M-track mode enabled?

Does it limit yaw rate/rotation but allow for wheel slip/spin under that limit?

More importantly, can I get the coding for it done somewhere in the Toronto/GTA area?

I think, at 6-7 days with the M, it's time to take off the training wheels. Especially if you're confident with your car control skills.

I want to have some form of stability control as backup at least until I can lap Mosport/CTMP in the 1:36-1:37 range (low 1:40's now).

I know from example that I should be able to get there on my current tires, stock suspension and M-track enabled rather than DSC fully off.

Most track day instructors / coaches / organizers like to see DSC enabled unless maybe you run slicks.

I don't think you'll be able to drop 4 seconds off with DSC/traction control of any form enabled. Just my personal opinion.

If I was sitting in your passenger seat? I would tend to agree with the other "coaches" and leave some form of "safety net" on for myself.

If you're chasing a lap time?

Take the training wheel off.

Otherwise you'll never know if it's you doing the driving, or if traction control is doing it for you.

Love your user name!!

What groups do you run with, I don't think I've seen you out there.
I'm out there with 6th Gear on Oct 5th and Trillium Oct22-23
Any chance you'll be out for either?

This year for Mosport GP, I was at Trillium's July and September events and did 2 days between them with Engineered Automotive / Driveteq.

I was looking at both of 6th Gear and Trillium (and an Apex day on the 6th), am still weighing having to go mid-week vs. chance of near-freezing temps by late October.

Garage List
M track mode will allow some more sideways action and some more wheel spin. Take several laps with track mode enabled, then when you're comfortable with the track, turn all help off.

if you decide to come out to 6th gear on Oct 5 there will be a few of us with M Coupes.
It would be great to see you out too.

Yes, 100% enable it!! I highly recommend it. You get so much more control over the car on the track.

I found in corner 5 and 10 I was not able to get on the power. With DTC mode I can get on the power and I still get my DSC light flashing here and there (down turn 2 near the second apex) to help when I overdo it.

Did you have the black M coupe? I think we met at those events.

EDIT:

DSC off is the only choice if you truly want your car to do what you want it to do ( with square setup or any other setup that isn't close to stock).

It drives pretty good the speedo is quite off (10%). Square setups where all the rage during the days of the E39 and E46 M3/M5. That's because they suffered from a lot of under steer. It now understeers less but it's not perfect.

DSC doesn't care whether or not you're squared up. It doesn't work that way.

^This^

The only thing that matters is the difference in the diameters of the tires. DSC is looking at the outputs from the wheel speed sensors and tire width is immaterial so long as the diameters are close.

I stand corrected it seems like the stock diameter is 27 all around so if your close to that then it should work good.

I see his diameters are quite different front 25.7 and rear 25.3 wouldn't be surprised if it drove ok but m track mode would improve it.

Ideally you want your diameters as close as stock as possible. I think this is definitely your current issue.

Change your tires make sure they are all 4 the same diameter or close.

Stock diameter is not 27". It's 26.

DSC is "calibrated" to ignore rotational differences of 5% or less. The difference between 25.7" and 25.3" is well within margin. 245/40/18 and 265/35/18 are common tire sizes MANY of us have run with on and off track. "M-track mode" will make zero difference regarding his tire size.

Yep, that was me.

Where can I get the programming done if I don't go the DIY (NCSExpert/Dummy on a Windows laptop + OBDII plug) route?
I heard inTgr8r has this code kung fu figured out...
