Lady smacked into me
Was on my way to work this morning taking the same route I take everyday. Got to one of the stoplights that is about 2 miles away from work. As I am sitting there waiting for the light to turn green, I notice the Chevy Avalanche in front of me begins to back up. As soon as I realize I'm about to get hit, I throw the gear shifter into reverse and try to back up before getting hit. Too late. She smacked into my front bumper. After she hit me, she stopped and I pulled up next to her telling her she hit me and for her to pull over into the gas station. I asked her what happened and she said she was trying to back up so that she could turn into the gas station entrance.
I haven't had an accident in forever (and the last accident was also not my fault). I'm a bit miffed right now, especially since it happened to the nicest car I have ever had the joy of owning. Luckily it's just the front bumper and was a very minor impact. I took pictures as soon as we got out of our cars. I lost both my kidney grilles (maybe now I can get the matte black ones?) and have a pretty good sized cut into the bumper as well as scratches and ripples in various spots. I just got off the phone with my insurance so the investigation will begin shortly. I did call the police and an officer showed up. However, he asked if I had the lady's information and I said yes. He then told me I was free to go. Kind of concerned there was no report filed. There were no witnesses that stopped so it could turn into a he said/she said type thing. But then again, these claims adjustor's should be smart enough to figure out the truth I would hope. In the end I'm a bit bummed about all of it. Hopefully everything turns out OK. |

sucks...someone backed into my avalanche ironically...police won't take a report unless the damage exceeds 500. Officer has no idea as to how much these bumpers and paint costs, obviously. Don't let ins repair the old one and fight for a replacement oem bumper and keep this one

Btw make sure the frame behind the bumper that "accepts" the grills are intact, someone backed into me as well and that frame became loose thus the grills would never stay tight

The officer didn't say anything about not having a front license plate?
IMHO, don't think it really matters if the driver isn't named on the other insurance policy. They should still take care of it. And/or if the driver has her own insurance even if it's on another vehicle, they should take care of it. Hope there's no future headaches getting it repaired. Looks very minor, thank goodness! |

This is no doubt a drag for you - sorry to hear!
But its good that you weren't injured. I look forward to hearing that you've got the car properly repaired, and hopefully, with minimal hassles. Cheers!

Hey, that's not too bad. After repairs, you won't notice a thing. Worse comes to worse, you can ask for a new bumper replacement.

A claims adjustor from my insurance just came out to my office and checked out the damage. He said I will be getting a new bumper. He also showed me a very small crease in the hood near the latch that will need to be repaired. You can actually see the crease he is talking about in the picture I posted above. It's just above the BMW emblem. Bummer.
All I can do now is hope I don't have to pay for this out of my own pocket. I was clearly at the wrong place at the wrong time. I'm mad at the fact that this dummy was driving around with no insurance in the first place. Luckily neither of us were hurt. However, I should not have to be penalized simply because it was not my fault. I was a sitting duck and I got nailed. |
