M COUPE BROKE DOWN AT MC DONALD's!

Guys, I was pretty embarrased and dissapointed with my M coupe today

It was 12:30 pm, drove out to Mc Donald's for a large coffee. Went to the drive through.

I drive to the drive through, place more order.
Lady asks me to drive to window 1 to pay.
As I approach window 1. I press on the clutch as I'm about to stop... then I hear this vibrating buzz noise below the car. The car just simply shut down.
I thought that I had released the clutch and stalled it.
I step on the clutch and turn the car key. The engine made some cranking noise normal per every key turn.. and that's it.. the engine would turn on...
So, I look over to the girl at the drive through window.... looked back at the rear mirror and noticed a heap of people in line.

I felt bad, " miss my car's stuck here, won't start "

She said, " pay me first for the coffee, and I'll get someone to push your car up to window 2, you pick up the coffee and he'll push you to the parking lot "

WOW WTF! She was smart... but I could imagine all those jeolous negative fuggers in the back saying... "hahah, think you're cool driving a cool car? hahaha"

So I called BMW road side... they were very professional, but if I wanted a flat bed tow, I'd have to wait 2 hours... so I ended up calling my friend and he got me a flat bed there in 15 minutes after calling.

Got to BMW.. and the HOT receptionist said... "are those LM-R's?" hhahaha... nice.

Also saw a 335 blowing of with he waste gate..."swishhhh"

And they got me a NICE hyuandai sonata as a courtesy car... no offence... looks are decent but drives like shit... hahaha...

Shot in the dark but with the buzzing you heard I'd say it was the fuel pump in the tank pooping out.

guys BMW called me today.

The screw that's holding the CAM SHAFT fell loose into the engine!

Luckily I was in the drive through, they are taking apart the engine now and see the damage.

Any ideas on what I should do?

Holy S#!T - that sounds like it could be bad. Hopefully it's not bad, it sounds like it didn't run for very long when you had the problem, which is good.

Not much you can do besides cross you fingers and hope there is not internal damage.

The obvious question is are you still under warranty?

I'd request some details on the "bolt falling off" thing - if there was a part failure, maybe even if you're out of warranty you'll get help from BMW on it. From all the time I've spent lurking around on E46 M3 forums, and from the two years I was involved in Grand Am with the E46s M3s and our M coupe, I can't say I've heard of a cam bolt or screw coming loose all by itself. VANOS failures, sure, they weren't uncommon but this seems like a weird one. More details needed.

TO UPDATE ALL:

I'm not a techie, so this is the best explanation I have.

Yesterday I dropped by BMW, went in to see the car, the bumper was off... exposing the engine, and the engine cover was off... exposing the holes in the top of the engine. The tech rep said that the Vanos screw or the camshaft screw was loose, but it was still in it's orginal place.

They let out the oil and didn't see any bit and peices of metal, nothing special... so they ordered some gaskets and other parts, didn't see any valves or pistons or anything big on order.

I just called BMW, the Tech rep told me that they put the engine back together but the car wouldn't start....

WTF, so if you guys drive an 06, better get the nuts and bolts checked and re-torqued????

And I have the SS race system ordered in..... WTF!!!

Got the car in 07, but apparently it's an 06. I have 11000 km on it.

Never drive it really hard... not yet.... hope I get too!

worse case, I'll get rid of the car... and have to sell my BRAND NEW SS RACE SYSTEM, anyone interested?

I hope so, I wanna go all out N/A engine on this car, no supercharger... love the classy color and style. I can imagine driving this when I'm bald too.

By that time, hope I'll have a few more exotics in the garage.

screws on the Vanos cam shaft got loose, split in two and the valves are bent, pistons they are checking today.

They may replace the engine for me.

So if you have an 2006, better go get the bolts changed, they have upgraded ones!

I thought the upgraded bolts happened on E46M3s, before Z4M production started.

maybe I got an old engine? you never know, business and life is always shady and money talks.

Just because it's a name brand... it's just better assurance.. not 100%.
