BMW TIS Load Problem
Howdy Folks! About to change Rotars, clean calipers, change pads and flush the brake system. Pulled out my TIS disk, and slammed it into my new (Oct 09) Dell with Windows 7. No can do. Will not run the disk. I would put it in my old computer, but the motherboard is fried. Operating system was windows XP. Any body been successful in this transition, or do I need to get another TIS? |

The TIS program may be a 16 bit program and that means it won't run on Win 7 if your Win 7 is 64 bit. Not sure if the problem exists on Win 7 32 bit.
There is a way but you have to have lots of memory (4Gb) or more. You can set up Win 7 to have "virtual" XP. This means it runs XP inside Win 7 in a window. I've done it and it works fine. Go here to find out more: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/vir.../download.aspx Most businesses never transitioned to Vista so there was no need to upgrade anything. Now that XP is no longer supported a lot of businesses will transition to Win 7. Hopefully BMW will to and update the TIS. But do not be surprised if they don't do the one for Z4's because the car is discintinued as well. Your best bet is Windows XP mode. |

Your best bet is to simply to install XP into a VMWare image. That way it will be "portable" across all your future OSes, and will work every time.
I use a mac, but I keep both an XP and a Win 7 vmware image ready for things like this. |
