Fender liner rubbing with stock Z4M wheels and 245/40-18 Front - 275/35-18 Rear?
I'm getting ready to buy new tires and would like to go a bit wider and hopefully reduce some understeer. I've see lots of recommendations to go with 245/40-18 and 275/35-18, but also saw one post saying they rub when turning near full lock.
Would appreciate feedback as to other experience with this. I have to pull into tight parking spaces regularly, so rubbing on full lock will be an issue. |

The best thing to do to reduce your understeer is change your alignment from OEM to something more aggressive. Then start thinking abour hardware upgrades.

Thanks for the great advice, and I will make sure to adjust the alignment as well. My tires are shot right now though, so need to make a decision on size...

Thanks! I'm debating between Pilot Super Sports and Hankook RS-3. Tires are crazy overpriced here, so I plan to order from Tirerack. Even with the $300-$400 shipping it will be cheaper than buying locally. I don't want to get it wrong though as it will be an expensive mistake.
Looks like you have aftermarket rims...Do you think the stock rims will be different? Last edited by TRSpitfire; 03-07-2012 at 08:19 AM.. |

FWIW, for fitment purposes only, I swapped my OE rears to the front to get an idea of how much clearance there is. I drove it around the block carefully and went full lock without problems. Then swapped back. You could to this to get an idea of clearance, but of course, don't drive like this.
This weekend after I install wheel studs, I'll post try to remember to post photos of 18x9.5+35 with 265 Star Specs for autocross. Need 5mm spacer up front so rim protector doesn't brush strut. Rear has slight rub on inside liner. |

I put some 235/265 Pilot Super Sports on today. I've only had them on a few miles, but I can already tell you I'm extremely happy with the choice.

Pilot Super Sports are one of the best street tires I've ever driven. Great grip on the street and track, and they aren't too loud in comparison to other tires with similar grip levels.
On the 245/275 setup, the liner will eventually wear through and clearance itself in a few spots and you'll have no more rubbing, not that big a deal.

Is your car lowered or do you plan on making any suspension changes? Ride height is going to come into play depending on how aggresive you go with your wheel and tires. Keep that in mind.

It's most likely going to hurt, 9 times out of 10 when you lower a car you loose a little clearence somewhere, this will especially be the case up front when wheels are turned, you might have full clearence with the wheels straight but rubbing when you turn to full lock or close to full lock.
