Is valve adjustment on S54 also time based?

Searched but couldn't find a definitive answer on this one.

If an S54 hasn't yet reached the requisite mileage for inspection I and the associated valve adjustment, is valve adjustment ever called for based on time alone? (such as in the case of a 2007 Mcoupe with only 10000 miles, put on the road in the fall of 2006 so approaching 8 years on the road)

Your inspection I and II are based on fuel burned, eg: 660gal..

There is no mileage based rule to do the valve inspection but there is nothing saying you cannot do it anyway.

Mike Miller from BMWCCA says every 30K.

It's based on wear, not time. As the parts wear, the clearance changes. At the rate your going, you have 16 more years LOL

Correct, the fuel consumption based is probably to simplify the service interval. The valve adjustment (number of shims needed to be replaced) is greatly affected by the driving style. My first valve job was at around 23k miles and I only replaced 2 on the intake and 3 on the exhaust side (they were barely on the edge of the tolerances). Those whom track or drive their cars very hard might have more to replace.
