What is the voltage of the battery when reading it with a volt meter? How many bagels did you get? Maybe you exceeded the weight limit of the car |

Well, not sure if it was a bam, rather than a shock of OMG for me.
Not sure it is the battery now, everything lights up, radio, radar detector, etc., when I turn the key to on, except instrument cluster and it won't turn over...just that CLUG. Just pulled the codes: P1644 - fuel pump P0344 - camshaft position sensor P0340 - camshaft sensor U112b - no message from instrument cluster |

I think he just meant that bad batteries in BMWs can cause stange issues, not necessarily OEM batteries. I've experienced some of this phenomenon. Before I knew I never would have thought the issues I had would be caused by a bad battery. I don't know what your issue is but I'd guess 1 or 3. Good luck and I hope you get it sorted quickly and easily!

UPDATE:
Ok, went outside to try to turn it over again, and now the cluster is (intermittently) back with the EML, SES and Traction light on. Also, it no longer CLUGS but has that familiar click-click-click sound now. Was thinking it may be something catastrophic for a while, but now maybe leaning more towards battery/alternator. |

I've went through all the possible starting issues with my car, start diagnosis with this list in terms of priority
1. Starter 2. Battery 3. Camshaft Position Sensor 4. Fuel Pump 5. Alternator I have a used alternator sitting in my garage, I thought I needed a new one, but I didn't. I also have a used camshaft position sensor, thought I needed a new one, but didn't

Check the Napa battery, I have gone through 3 different ones in my Porsche in the last year. They have gotten some bad ones, they like to drop cells at any given moment and cause all kinds of havoc!!

Something similar happened twice to me. First time was a bad battery (the OEM one), had it replaced. A couple of years later it was a bad starter motor and the symptoms were similar to yours. Some lights etc would turn on but car wouldn't start-up, not even the familiar click-click when the battery's dead.
