DIY - RESET SERVICE INTERVAL (only for Z4 and E46)

1) With engine off and key not inserted keep pushing the left button on the instruments cluster ;
2) Insert key and turn to position 1 (do not leave the previous button) ;
3) Wait about 5 seconds (button alway pushed) until the service will show on the display ;
4) Leave the button for a moment and then push it again until the rESET on the display will start flashing ;
5) Now release the button and quickly push it again when rESET displays when flashing

Done!

Hope this will help someone that wants to change the engine oil by him/herself without going to the stealer...ehm...dealer

More detailed info here.

It should reset to oil service or inspection based on the time/distance traveled. If it says inspection, than your next service will be an inspection.

Can someone take a look at my video and tell me what I'm doing wrong? I did the oil service myself haven't been able to reset the mileage count properly.

1. Press & hold left button
2. Turn key to 1st position
3. While holding button Oil Service appears on the 2nd line of the display
4. Hold button for 5 seconds more and Reset appears on the 1st line
5. Release button briefly and hold button for 5 secs until Reset flashes
6. Let go and wait for End to appear

I've tried doing this for the past month or so and still no luck. Every time, it will flash Reset. Then End will appear followed by the current mileage countdown says. In this case -150.

Read the link in the mail above from 2009. For cars that don't need a reset tool (all Z4Ms) here is a short summary (I just went through this reset on my car):

If you are close enough mileage wise to reset the Service Indicator ("reset" will appear when you go through the button pushing process) it will reset the indicator to the next service, alternating between an Inspction service or an Oil service. If somehow your maintenance is out of synch with your Service Indicator (mine was, shop that did my Inspection One reset it to an Inspection service again using an OBD based tool) you can reset the indicator again after consuming 10 liters of fuel. That' what i did. After I reset the indicator for the first time it displayed "Oil Service". I drove for about 50 miles then reset it again and now it displays "Inspection Service".
