There is only so much power you can net from tuning a NA S54 motor after mapping VANOS, TQ parameters AFR's etc.. once you have tuned the car to run safe the only other option is to run the car lean or attempt to have it run advanced timing. Both of these options can lead to motor damage under the right conditions. We have calibrated our tune to run safe and to also improve throttle response and overall driveability. We rate power gains on a stock car around 10 whp and on cars with headers or custom exhaust systems we have had customers make more. My suggestion for anyone tuning their car is to check your AFR's and timing to ensure it is running safe. Dispite what a tuner tells you you should always know first hand whats going on with your motor.
We also flash in a default 91 octane map which does not exist in the factory software. The factory software has a 93 octane and 89 octane map it will switch between depending on fuel quality. This is why 91 octane users notice that the car feels really nice when adaptations are reset and sluggish after being driven around for awhile. Many of the things we do in our NA flash we learned while developing the software for our supercharger kits. |

No the Z4M factory software wants to run on 93 octane. It should only feel less responsive if you have poor quality fuel and it defaults to its 89 map.

That's interesting. If 91's the best i get around here, does that mean the factory ECU will default to the lower 89 map?

You should feel a difference between the 98 and 95 if you are a RON scale b/c 95 would be about 91 ish octane in the US and the z4 will probably defualt to the 89 octane map dropping your HP. |
