Oil change
I did my oil change today using he oil evaluator. I find it odd that only 5L (just a little less) comes out yet I need to put in exactly 5.6L to get it back to the mid mark on the dipstick. Could there be that much oil in the filter and remaining in the engine?

Yes thats normal although I always use old fashioned drain plug style change.Believe it or not - the regular 6 in the nonM Z4's hold another litre!

At my last oil change, after I used my evacuator and sucked, sucked, sucked as only a good ....evacuator could, I removed the drain plug. Another 1/3 liter drained out of the pan. Would have hoped it was less, but for that amount I'm still going to use the evacuator.

Long time ago I had a gathering where a bunch of guys stopped by so we can use my extractor to do oil changes on like 5 cars at a time. We decided to put one of the cars up on a ramp and gravity drain it after the extractor was done, and we found about 200ml remain in the crank after the extractor did its job.
Our conclusion was, if you warm up the engine before you extract, 90% of the contaminant will be extracted and you'll have mostly fresh oil. The remaining 200ml or so is not enough to worry about, especially after my mechanic confirmed that the BMW dealership he worked at as a master mechanic also uses a vacuum based extractor for most oil changes, as does he. The filter housing on our car also holds another 400ml or so, especially if the filter is still wet.
