Wind Blocker

Hi all,

I've searched the forums and the net. I'm looking for the wind blocker. What is the preferred wind blocker to have for the z4 vert? Any suggestions and comments are welcome.

There are various aftermarket units that are made of Plexiglas/Lexan, and either use stick-on attachments or straps to secure them to the roll hoop covers.

BMW makes two OEM wind blockers, one being a 'soft' strap on arrangement that is stretched over the roll hoops. The factory 'hard' windblocker has both permanent inserts for the roll hoop interiors and a detachable screen that slides into fixed guides in the area between them. The center windblocker was designed to allow a certain amount of air flow through it, and can be stored in a pair of brackets on the inside of the trunk lid. To my eye, the OEM 'hard' unit looks the best on the car, and works extremely well at both noise reduction and controlling wind buffeting.



The factory pieces can be ordered and retrofitted to a car without them, though like most things BMW they aren't cheap. Do a little searching and you'll find a LOT of existing posts on windblockers, including retrofit part numbers, suppliers of the aftermarket units, etc.

This is what I have, it's one of the less expensive options, but not the prettiest, but it works and thats what matters.

I have extended leather which is why my hoops are black. If your hoops are the normal silver plastic the straps shouldn't stand out as much. I also upgraded to the Lexan, rubber bead and vinyl satchel although it has stayed mounted since I got it.

I also have the Windblox w/ clear straps, cost something in the neighborhood of $130. Does a great job, wife's hair @ 60mph doesn't even really move. I've always wanted the OEM blocker, but not at the prices the thing sells for. So i'll keep rolling along with my budget model instead

Same here, but purchased on sale through BavAuto - plus when one of the hoop lower attachment pieces was lost while driving, I called and they quickly shipped me a replacement piece for free.
