Z4M ESS Exhaust and Blow-off Valve

The car has ESS Vt2-500 supercharger, EURO headers, de-catted Spipe, stock Xpipe, Rogue engineering El diablo muffler

I installed only a discharge funnel on the ESS bypass valve and this is how it sounds like:

I would add some small ar20 resonators to rid of that rasp in the exhaust, if you don't like it

In for details on what exact discharge funnel you added. Looking for something similar to do to mine

Actually the engine bay is not that bad, it's the sunlight giving the impression of massive dirt. It needs a good clean though. i still haven't detailed it after i rebuilt the engine.

You know those knockoff made in china greddy blow-off that cost nothing? i unscrewed the discharged funnel and put it in the bypass valve that comes with the ESS kit, it cost me around 6$

I can take a few pics of it if you like.

This is an example of the knock-off kit:

inline 6s sound like shit?? rb26? 2jz? Decent setup on a blown s54 ( s/c or turbo)
Healy 3000, Tvr Speed 6, Triumph S6s.... honestly nicky your a cool guy but that has to be one of the strangest things i've read on this forum, the S6 sound is absolutely wonderful, it just needs the correct setup to sound right like everything, but with the wrong setup i agree they CAN sound a horrific buzzing, droning mess.

He probably doesn't like the characteristic metallic raspyness of the I6...
It's the sound of perfect mechanical balance I'm afraid
All other engine configuration sounds that are characteristic for that engine (except the v12) are there because of an inherent flaw by design in one way or the other.

I'll try to do that this weekend if it wasn't raining

I have to stress that the raspy sound is the most exciting thing about the usage of the throttle in my car, it's not like those infiniti G35 decatted rasp or 350Z hollow ricer rasp, it's more like the Z4GT3 raw engine rasp.

The raspy 6 cylinder sound is a true unique sound of BMW motorsport, if you want your car to sound like an AUDI V8 or american muscle car V8s then you bought the wrong car.

It also has a specific name as i recall, engineers call it the M technic sound similar to porsches flat 6 bassy hollow sounds

It doesn't sound like shit at all, it sounds very VERY exotic.
There's no other car that sounds like it and I get regular thumbs up from car owners on the sound

LoL "exotic". Whatever you want to believe man. Put that sound clip you posted above of a raspy mess with a vacuum cleaner sound on shifts against a Lambo, Ferrari, Pagani or something else and let's see how great it sounds. Tell you what, black out the sound clips and let us guess which car is which. I'll pick out the shitty S54 every time. Like I said, you still have a wonderful car and I love my Z4M more than any other car I've ever owned, but stop deluding yourself about the sound of that thing.

I know we all love our cars, but you have to be honest. I get thumbs up all the time too for my car, and it has nothing to do with the sound.

I also like how my car sounds and no matter how much this irritates NickyC it won't change my opinion.

I guess i'd rather convince my mind that the sound is exotic and nice than yearn for a flatplane crankshaft that is never gonna happen be happy man ... it's not a ferrari or a lambo, why would you compare it to that? can you make a civic or a subaru or an EVO sound as good as a Z4M ?

When I say exotic, I mean relatively to the engine configuration, it sure sounds better than a porsche GT3 that i've riden in for a whole lot of full throttle pulls on the highway

In order to change the exhaust note (the raspy thing you hate):
You would need stepped headers, S pipe with AR20 resonator and an H connector after the resonators (2.75 inch or 3 inch with supercharger) than straight to the mufflers with long helmholtz chambers (not wide chambers like diablos more like RPI and eisenmann but longer and narrower)

It's kind of like what DKF was trying to do but tailored for the street.

Using 2.5inch pipes and an Xpipe is actually accentuating the raspy sound no matter what you do.

The lambo and ferrari howl will never be achieved unless you swap a flatplane crankshaft and filtered tubes from the intake chamber to the cockpit which is never going to happen on a Z4

I forgot to tell you that those car owners happen to be ferrari and porsche owners and big petrol heads

This is an example of a very very accentuated raspy S54 with a Y pipe after headers all the way till the end, a vanos delete to have the camshafts in an ideal state at redline, this means that the exhaust flow is almost ideal at all times. It also comes with a stroker kit and a CSL intake and some other secret mods

This car came first due to this perfect mechanical balance of the engine. Enjoy!!!

NickyC couldn't handle 10 seconds but I find 2 minutes and 36 seconds to be too short for me. The sound is just music to my ears. S54's have that sound that you either love or hate.

Only time I don't like an S54 sound is when the exhaust is stock. That beast needs to be unleashed!

Btw 450hp is pretty damn impressive for an engine that's nearly impossible to get 45hp out of..

We're talking 3.7L custom stroker kits, 9k+ RPM and race camshafts with no Vanos

That's not your normal street S54
