New to me '06 Z4M Roadster
Hi everyone, this summer I decided to give my 2008 128i a baby brother to play with. Not sure how they'll get along though as his new brother has already kicked him out of the garage.
It's a 2006 BMW Z4 M Roadster with 34,000kms (21,250 miles for our American brothers and sisters), black with red imola leather seats, wood grain dash. All stock except for the plastic wind breaker and barely driven/always garaged for winter by the previous owner (also a serious BMW enthusiast). PPI reveals the car is near mint condition, hardly driven (gearbox still feels tight as anything but I can tell I'm working her in). For some 13+ years I have always wanted an M car (preferably with an S54), a convertible and a true two seater sports car. Finally I have all of the above in one package. Car is truly heroic in the turns and that S54 in action is everything that has been written about it. As a long time BMW enthusiast this is my first ///M and I'm completely hooked after one weekend. Not sure I'll ever sell it just for its heritage and the value I got for my dollar alone. Going to be browsing the forum to learn all about the right fluids to use as I'm going to basically flush nearly everything except the gearbox and differential. Also trying to decide how stock to keep it and maintain it in classic condition or to start tastefully doing some modifications to pull more power out of her (intake, headers, whatever) and am open to suggestions on which way to go! Wouldn't touch suspension. Also given that this is my second car used in the summer only (unless I end up driving her down to Florida and parking her there for a few snowbird like visits over the winter as I'm considering!) I can consider some sportier tires. I have Michelin Pilot Sports on my 128i and they're comfortable and are great on mileage but they might be a bit soft to maintain the sporty M feeling in this car. Open to suggestions in this regard! (not that I have to make any tire changes any time soon really). Looking forward to becoming an active member of the forum and see you guys out there! |

Also being a complete newb to owning a convertible and a soft top I need to very quickly educate myself on how to properly care for a soft top, how to clean it and how to treat it so water beads off it. I want to avoid driving it in the rain as much as possible but I know it is inevitable so if anyone has any tips that aren't obvious please feel free to share!

Well done and congrats, That is a beautiful car!
For soft top care I like BMW products. It's really not any more expensive than any other quality product and I've never seen anyone post a negative comment. I use a light amount of BMW soft top cleaner whenever I wash it. I need to order a bottle of the BMW soft top protection. I also recommend getting a car cover or at least a soft top cover. Scrubbing bird poo off the fabric roof is no fun.

Congrats on the new machine, a fine-looking wee beastie she is!
Re convertible top stuff, others here swear by the RaggTop cleaner and protectants.

Looks just like my car when it was stock, except yours has that beautiful interior! I know you said you don't plan on modifying the suspension but if you change your mind about closing that gap in the wheel fenders, I got a brand new set of H&R sports springs which are the same ones I have in my car installed. Here's the link just in case and enjoy that beauty!

Looks great! You're right the value you get for the money is incredible. Not to mention its got the same running gear as an E46M3 competition package but is much lighter, and a roadster. Congrats!
