Should I buy a warranty for my future '03 Z4?

Hi Guys!

I finally sold my 2006 325i sedan on autotrader after 3 months of having it advertised! Now I can finally get my dream car - the gorgeous Z4

I am looking to buy a 2003-2005 Z4. I have my eye on a 2003 Z4 Black exterior/beige interior, sport package with only 25K miles!

BUT...it is out of the factory warranty so I don't know if I should buy a warranty with it. The dealer provides warranties from SERVICE SHIELD. Have you guys ever heard of them?

I am also getting some quotes from other warranty providers like Auto Advantage and Tony K (Easy Care). Are there any other companies you recommend for warranties and do I even need a warranty? What do you guys think?

I am looking forward to being a Z4 owner very soon! Thanks for your advise!

I have a Z4 for sale!! I am actually looking for a 06 325 or 330
My Z4 is a CPO (warranty for another 2+ years or 100k miles), and personally this is one car I would really want a warranty on because if the top dies, its quite pricey to fix.
Here is a link to the listing: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=142513
I might be driving it down south this weekend, but I might end up driving the sedan. Give me a call or email.

I don't know if the warrenties are worth it myself. I would find a slightly newer vehicle that has been CPO'd and that will have a BMW warrenty. I don't think there is any benefit if you are looking to get a coupe instead of a roadster.

Hi Ian,

Your Z4 is very nice but I am actually looking for a black one with black top with beige interior...I know what you're probably thinking...I am picky but what can I say I want my perfect dream car. I don't mind waiting until one comes available with everything I want. Right now I am driving my company car to work and back so it's not a big deal if I have to wait a little longer to get the Z4.

I sold my 06 325 on www.autotrader.com. You might want to post your car there. You should have no problem selling your car...it's very nice. Good luck!

I think I read somewhere else on the forum that the BMW warranty does not really cover the covertible top. Do you know anything about that?

The BMW warrenty covers the entire vehicle. I have heard from several people who have had the entire top replaced under warrenty by BMW.

even though, most people find they spend <$2,000 in repairs before their warrenty runs out so it is not worth spending the money on the off chance you might break even.

Nailed it. I had mine done because it was acting slow, my SA mentioned that I saved a good chunk of money.

I had the top motor replaced on my '05 Z4 under the factory warranty. I've since gotten VERY good about checking to see if the drain vents are plugged by leaves or other debris.
