Racing hood vents for the z4m hood
Hello owners of the best bmw!
I got in touch with a company called trackspec motorsport. They make hood vents specifically designed for each car. My friend who owns a m3 e46 race car said he tested their vents and he managed to lower his temps by 10-15 degrees. He has one of the fastest time in buttonwillow and laguna seca for m3e46 and stated that on fast corners such as sweepers, he could feel a slight reduction in understeer as well. So I contacted them, but they didnt have any vents for the z4m hood and said that he could make one if I dropped off my hood. The hood is with them right now. Hes gonna send me a couple of ideas that he said he already had, but also I provided him pictures of the Varis hood to see if he could do the vents with same measurements and location. Meanwhile he asked me a few questions such as: "MEASUREMENT FROM THE EDGE OF THE BUMPER (FRONT OF THE HOOD IF IT WAS ON THE CAR) TO THE BACK EDGE OF THE RADIATOR, I CAN GET A STARTING POINT ON WHERE ID LIKE TO PLACE THE LOUVERS FOR MAXIMUM HEAT EXTRACTION FROM THE RADIATOR" Vanne already offered to get the measurements tomorrow, but if someone is free today, it would be nice if you could get me the measurements now lol. Thank you crfine88 for offering getting the measurements of the varis vents and for the pictures!! inTgr8r , seems like you have a good knowledge with these kinda of projects....do you have any recommendation of vents location? Thanks everyone. here are picture of my friends car, and some of their vents. Last edited by AriuSen; 10-17-2016 at 01:27 PM.. |

looks like a great idea for a track car.
TBH, I don't see myself cutting up my OE hood though. As far as location goes, there was an old thread here where someone did some engineering on vents location. http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=466779 http://www.zpost.com/forums/showpost...8&postcount=23 http://www.zpost.com/forums/showpost...4&postcount=39 IIRC there was a neg. pressure location about halfway back. That would be useful for a couple reasons. It would help draw the air flow (efficiency) & decrease lift.

I would get varis hood, but is too much money. Also one of my friends crashed few weeks ago and totaled the car. His car was amazingly mint with all the oem csl stuff. After that I realized that you can lose everything in a split of a second. So as I'm getting deeper and deeper into full race car, i realized is not worth it unless you go track once in a while and just for fun. I prohibited cris from going to the track with his car haha.
