So few days ago I went to willow springs to practice some drifting for the first time. I had a huge blast!!!
Everytime my friends asks me for tips or ways to improve laptime, the first thing I say is "let's practice drifting". I had an event where my friend wasn't a very experienced driver, but as he asked for tips for better laptime, I went with him as passenger and then told him where he could be faster. The next day he crashes the car. What did I learned from that? As you push harder, the more risks you will be taking, and if you are not ready for the stuff that can happen when you push harder, you are not rdy to improve your laptime. After that day I really encourage my friends to practice drifting at least once. It really teaches you how to handle the car better in some situations that you don't wanna be at, but sometimes you can't avoid it. So amigos! If you can, take a day to go drifting, I bet you won't regret, and you will feel so much confidence at the track! Be safe everyone!

Or do the "rat race" at the M school. Made a HUGE difference for me. You're up against other drivers so there's need to keep your speed up, on a wet oval skid-pad. The only way to stay in the race is to be able to initiate, hold, and control a drift at will.

I lived in Chicago for 40 years.
Each Winter was drifting practice.

Nice to see that car ripping around like that. Reminds me of living in Tokyo, Japan in the era of the Toyota Supra twin turbo, Nissan Skyline R and Nissan 300ZX twin turbos. I saw dudes ripping through the train station drop off circles doing the same on a Friday night with Japanse police hot on their tails. Very impressive. Two thimbs up!

Thanks. I need to look into this. Looks like fun as well as building useful reactions and skills.

Autocross is a good compliment also. To be really quick you have to be beyond the limit of adhesion, but still in control to get the correct slip angles through slaloms and other obstacles.

There is also something to be said about driving at the absolute limits of your car and your own personal ability. A lot of us have a lot of money invested in these cars, it only takes a split second mistake and then you have no car. Insurance won't normally cover your car on the track unless you take out specific insurance for the day. I for one would be absolutely horrified if I threw my car into a catch rail, and that's not even mentioning or assuming you'll walk away from the crash. Just take it a little easy out there guys, no one is winning any championships, and at the end of the day, id rather drive my car home from the track rather than catch a forced ride in an ambulance. There is a fine line between having fun, improving your own limits and doing something stupid and not having a car after that.

Keep your mind in the game folks.
Oh and pls drive safe. ; )
