Help with hydraulic roof motor

‘07 BMM Roadster. I’m replacing the motor for the hydraulic roof motor assembly. However part B came out of A and there are three pins that also slide out of part B. When putting B back into A, do the pins need to engage the center shaft of A? I can’t get the pins deeper in and B just spins freely from shaft A. Not sure if that’s how it’s supposed to work.
