you really got taken advantage of. $300 for 30 minutes worth of work. That is $600 an hour. Thats crazy. You stated it yourself that all they had to do was clamp a tube, unscrew a nut, and rescrew it....

I just slipped the tech $20 during my 1500 mile oil change. Anything over $50 is ridiculous.

Anyone know of a good shop in the Cinci area to replace the CDV?

I've got a Zeckhausen unit, but am on the fence. Can you share your experience before/after the swap? I really find no issue with how the clutch operates, fast shifting or parallel parking.

the clutch is much more responsive and i personally feel smoother shifts. all around, the car is just much more pleasurable to drive. im sure im not the best driver in the world, but my choppy shifts pre-cdv delete weren't 100% my fault. i drove with the cdv in for 8k miles (~10 months) and with no cdv for about 100 miles and i am very happy about the switch.

Your best bet is to use http://www.bimrs.org/index.html to find a good, local, independent shop. They're going to be the cheapest (unless you can find a board member to do it for you).

Although this really is something you could do yourself on the side of the street with basic tools

I did it on my 3.0, but never bothered with the M as I found that the 3.0 post CDV change felt very similar to the M pre-CDV removal.

Having a long 7 MM spanner is a useful tool for the six speed gearbox versions though as the space is fairly limited. On a 2.5, it was a lot easier to remove (5 speed box).
