extremely hard to find.. often check ebay, i saw one last month.. you'll need to go pick it up as it is near impossible to ship without damaging it.

also you need the hardtop prep kit first.. else you can't mount it

You definitely want to get a hardtop because they look fantastic!

(Neither is my car, but great images)

IMO the OEM hardtop doesn't look like it belongs on the E85. From the side it looks like a poorly designed aftermarket piece of equipment because of the large gap that's left over the rear quarter panel. It's fine from the rear though and obviously serves a functional purpose in the winter. With that being said, I would still get one if the price was a bit lower.

Here's a close-up of what I'm talking about:

To my eye it doesn't look anywhere near like a poorly designed aftermarket item.

The only design grip I have is where the "B" pillar is and is a little long so it comes down on the rear quarter panel.

Aesthetically, to me the roadster with a hardtop looks better than the E86 Coupe, but that's why they built both of them.

I've been looking at pictures of both the E85 with hardtop and the E86 on my 2 monitors and I agree - the E85 looks better to me too. I just can't get over why there is such a big gap between between the hardtop and rear fender though.

There's a reason the E86 brings substantially more money that the E85 and it's not just the rarity. The E85 even cost more than the E86 when new. No disrespect to roaster owners, but to most people, the E86 is just a better looking car. The E85 with hardtop looks like it's wearing a helmet. It needs a side window or some extra lines/design to the area behind the side window. But, if I had a roadster, I would definitely want the hardtop option.

I have a hardtop sitting in the garage that I searched for months to find and then had to keep in contact with the owner for 6 months till he caved and sold the car and hardtop separately. In the end I got what I was looking for but like others said, extremely rare. I hope you all the best in your search.

Agreed. I have a roadster, but the coupe most certainly is a better looking car. It is very exotic looking. This is why we hear stories like one recently posted with an unsolicited offer from a stranger for an M coupe. I have not heard the same about a roadster.

I had hardtops for my Miatas for many years. I initially looked for one for the Z but then stopped because with the fantastic heated seats I found myself driving top down on many warm days that would spring up here and there. If I'm not going on the highway, I'll go top down until around 40 degrees. Just have to dress appropriately.

IMO, With the top Up, I agree the Coupe Looks better! Even more so with the hard top on the Roadster, IMO.
With the top down, I like the look of the Roadster better than the Coupe! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Coupe, Great Looking car!

This !!!! totally agree! windows up, roof off, with the top covers on the rear it looks so cool!! The roadster has its ugly times but actually so does the coupe, theirs a design in the rear hatch above the 1/4 panel that i really find ugly, but then theirs times i see parts on the roadsters and i think it looks ugly, the rear 1/4 of the HT when viewed from the front, and with the roof up I'm not to keen either.

either way this design in general roadster or coupe is nothing but stunning imo, and even today when i see an ///M particularly thats not mine and in motion on the road i stop and think wow, I've got one of those!

thanks ian,

it took a while to get it tied in so it worked, but now it is, with the different contrasts it looks so so so nice, much better in the "metal". i get so many comments and people approach to talk about the car, whats nice all cosmetics are O.E pieces.

if theirs a large gap in this area then its not adjusted right..... the gap should be 5mm which is nothing.
