luckily, if you ruin your rear fenders with rolling and pulling, they're easy to take off and replace

Problem is not the fenders. Problem is the trailing arm. Even at 18"x9.5" et 26 on 275/35/18s, on hard corner the tires (R-Comps) deflect enough to touch the trailing arm. Anything wider than that foot-print (typical of Nitto, the 275s probably run about 10mm wider than equivalent street tires) with offset one way or another will rub either on the trailing arm, or fender if no additional camber is added. So for example, a 285/XX/?? tire will likely either rub the trailing arm if the wheel is wider than 10" with et in the 25 or more range, or it will rub the fender if et is in the 20 or less range. And you can forget running anything like an extreme summer or R-Comps, since those tend to run wider than typical street tires. 285 on 10" with 25mm may clear with the rear camber maxed out, but will still likely rub the trailing arm when suspension is loaded at high G for extended time (high speed sweepers).

i havent really considered the trailing arm. took a look just now and it looks like i have about an inch of clearance and no signs of contact. i'll keep an eye out for any rubbing on that spot. ty

just noticed your HRE's are 18x10 et20. what size tires do you have on them? an easy way to test your clearance is just drive half way up a driveway at an angle to put more load on the rear. the 19x10.5 et25 just sticks out 1mm more so if you are running 275 already you will probably be fine. just gotta be sure you can spare 11mm on the inside.

Slight OT, but didn't want to start another thread.
Can I fit front 245/40/18 on stock rims with stock suspension (no camber kit)? I know it's no problem with the kit and/or camber plates, but what about stock?

I'm gonna try to run 285s RE-11s or AD08s on a 18x9" rear. 40 initial offset, but I'll space it out for a better fit. Probably 15mm...

285s won't fit on 9" rims, both Yokohama's and Bridgestones will require a MINIMUM of a 9.5" to mount 285s in 18" and 19" diameters.

hmm. Someone here ran 285s on stock rims, thats why I was planning it. 275s should hopefully offer enough grip with the tires I want

Let me rephrase that. It will fit, but it won't work. When manufacturers suggest a specific rim width for a tire, it means they've tested the load placed on the sidewalls and the cords for that specific sidewall size and design and deemed that anything outside of that range of tires will end up placing unfavorable stress on the carcass and generate too much heat, resulting in unpredictable outcome. If you're familiar with the process in which tires are built, the "cords" in the tire's carcass is placed under tremendous stress as they're wound around on the base belt and sidewall, and placing the tire on wheels too small or too large for the intended use will "stretch" those nylon cords beyond their design parameters.

Even for a set of tires used ONLY for track, it's not a favorable solution because that 10mm extra width won't make up the difference in excess and constant load on the sidewall. And once the sidewalls start to get squeezed in, you may actually LOSE available contact patch instead of gain it from a wider tire.

This is a case where just because you can, doesn't mean you SHOULD, IMO.

You want to fit fat tires?

If you want fat tires and ultra aggressive looks then you have no option but to get a wide body kit.Check out the thread here.

Wheel/tire fitment

I have been using Apex Arc 8 wheels this summer- 18x10rear with 25mm
offset / 18x9 front with 42 mm offset. I have been using Hankook RS-3 tires-
245/40/18 ft and 285/35/18 rear. I have stock suspension and have camber set to -2.5 front and -1.5 rear . the only issue has been the left rear fender liner has rubbed through in 1 spot at top and very slight rub on inside of rt. rear liner. No issues on front . This is after running over 20 track days this summer .
These tires are still on wheels but will need replaced before next season
(storage time here)
RS-3 has been great and will buy again
Hope this helps
