Thoughts on buying a second ECU

What are your guys thoughts on buying a second ECU? I have to send my ECU off to active to get my software installed. Being my only car it will be kind of difficult to deal without. I know you can rent a car but If I could buy a stock ECU and keep the car running, plus resell the stock ECU when I'm done.

My dad did it on his z3m when he got the car supercharged and said it worked like a champ. Just didn't know if thats possible with the z4m.

Dont think it will be very easy to do.
The DME will be coded to the VIN.
cost? new is about $1200 (guesstimate)

Why active? why not one of the vendors that you don't have to send out the DME

get a remote tuner, so you can tune from your house. Most tuners have an option available

ZStig. Active was going to do that for me, but the Simon isn't compatible with the z4m apparently. I guess it doesn't seem like a great option anymore.
