OBDII gauges on an old cellphone

I finally got it working tonight with my old cell phone. It's kind of perfect because the corner of the screen is dead and the phone was just sitting around doing nothing useful. Now it has been repurposed and I love being able to monitor coolant temp and battery voltage. The GPS speedo is pretty cool too because I know my aftermarket wheels don't read accurately on the analog speedo.

Do any of you have the OBDII DX? I love the interface programability, but it is clearly a generic set of gauges of which most don't work. Which guages do you guys find most useful of the working ones?

In any case, check it out dudes...

Looks nice!!
I did the exact same thing with an otherwise useless iPod and DashCommand.
DashCommand has an easy (ish) to use editor so you can rearrange gauges, get rid of ones that don't work, make your own, etc.

Here's mine:

And yes, that is an "old Tek" in the background next to my Hammarlund SP-600.

Do OBDII gauges on an old cellphone (or iPod)?
Just need a Bluetooth or WiFi OBD dingus, an instrument app, and a mobile device to run it on.
There's lots to choose from.
Decide on a mobile device first, because it may affect your decision on the other two bits.
In particular, Apple doesn't do Bluetooth (a$$hat$).

I can tell you what I did.

This guy showed my how to use the free Llama app.

https://youtu.be/RUHSOtlil7o

...which was a little hard to figure out at first, but I got it.

Then I bought this at the video's suggestion and it's great.

In the reading I did I found bluetooth to be best. You can find some of these for really cheap, but they will lag and I didn't want that. Mine is super fast. For instance when I have the car warm and then turn on the heat I can watch the coolant temp gauge drop a few degrees almost instantly. My tachometer revs the same as my analog gauge etc.

I still have to actually wire the thing up to F2 in the fuse box, but when I do it will turn on automatically, link the bluetooth and go right to the dashboard program that came with my OBDII link MX. Then When I shut off the car, the phone will shut off automatically as well.

The issue that stopped me from doing this is that it's just a little too far away to touch the screen - you have to lean forward to reach it. I use an iPad mini with a Kuda mount and a magnetic attachment.
